Re:Like I said, I am at Compaq's site.
Does this sound like something I might try: (it takes five floppies, ugh)
Supplemental Programs
Version 2.00 A – 25 Apr 1996
This softpaq contains 5 diskettes with the following utilities:
- .INF FILES FOR INSTALLATION
- COMPAQ INFORMATION CENTER
- PCMCIA REAL MODE DRIVERS; MOUSE DRIVER
- CIRRUS DRIVERS
- WINDOWS 95 DRIVERS
SUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEM: Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98
I downloaded the softpaq. I would need to unzip it onto 5 disks and load it on the Laptop.

Re:It's windows 95.
I am at compaq's site searcing for some drivers to install for the PCMCIA Card Services that is listed as "other device" and says it has no drivers loaded.
Should I be looking there or at Cirrus???

Re:Bummer.
What operating system are you on?
Re:UPDATE
Nothing Reality. I downloaded the latest drivers and installed. I even ran hyperterminal. Same thing. Just dial tone… no dialing. Then operator "if you'ld like to make a call".
I am going to see if I can solve the "other devices" problem.

Re:RB, you da man!!
I will check em out when I get home. I am hoping that will work. I hope I can find the drivers for the PCMCIA Card Services that is listed under Other devices in device manager.
Your help is appreciated!

Re:Look Here
http://www.mhz.com/support/all.cfm?model=CC5560
and here for win95

here for win98

I suggest you udpate all drivers you can.
Re:Thanks. I will try the hyperterminal.
I have been all over ms support and compaq support pages. But can't seem to find any pertinent info. The laptop is several years old. I will research further for new drivers. I have already uninstalled the modem and pcmcia drivers and reinstalled. I just allowed windows to use the drivers it found to reinstall.
At this point I do not have any drivers or driver disk for the US Robotics XJ-CC5560 PCMCIA card Modem. I found some links on the net but they were all old and led to removed pages.

Re:hyperterminal should be installed by default on every version of windows.
Try – Start – Run – then type in hypertrm.exe and press enter
give it same made up name for the session and enter a phone number of some sorts for it to dial.
If you get the same thing then I would remove the modem and delete it from the device manager, reboot and re install it making sure to use new drivers.
The issue with the PCMCIA card controller showing up as a known and as a unknown device may be significant here.
I think the Compaq LTE has a Cirrus Logic PCIC compatible and a Card bus compatable controller inside. You might want to check Compaqs web page for a PCMCIA card controller driver.
Re:Hyperterminal?
Is that what I get by going
start> progams> accessories> communications> phone dialer? If so, I tried that and same result. Just the dial tone…. then the operator, no dialing.

Re:How about if you use hyperterminal to dial out? I just want to see if the modem will dial at all outside of AOL and dial-up networking. If it works under hyperterminal then your problem is all software related, if it will not work then you may have a driver or hardware issue.
