Place the icon in the taskbar in Windows XP desktop [place icon] [taskbar]

Q: I did in Windows 2000, but now I am with XP. I can go to the desktop with a key combo Windows Key + M, I can right click on the and choose “Show Desktop” but I prefer an icon I can link. Is there a way to set that up? Thank you.

Best Answer: C:\Windows is where explorer.exe resides. I run windowsXP pro. service pack 2 and the size of my explorer.exe file is 1,008kb in size

I'm sure you have already figured out that the reason you do not see any icons or the start menu bar when you log in, is because your explorer.exe has crashed.

Have you tried booting the system in Safe Mode, and if so, do you get desktop icons there? Have you tried scanning your system from safemode ?

The only suggestion I can make, is to boot up to your WindowsXP disk, chose the "R" for Recovery Consule and copy the explorer.exe off of the disk and over write the one in C:\Windows

Create a shortcut (right click desktop–>New–>Shortcut) to explorer.exe and then drag it to the QLTB. You can then delete it from the desktop.

I had this very thing in mind, but I couldn't find explore.exe! I spent the last 1.5 hours trying to find out why I have such limited access on my machine. My last on-site job I was given administrator status (from the getgo). This time I'm not so lucky… (just started Monday).

A search for explore.exe comes up with iexplore.exe. That's cool, I like it on my QLTB too, but I also want Explorer.

Re:Thanks. I have now enabled the QLTB. Now, how do I place on the QLTB a launcher for the Windows Explorer? I'm constantly launching that.
