Potential cooling problem? Please help! [rear fan] [cpu temp]

Q: Hey guys / gals,
Ive had my new system up and running for a few weeks now. Heres the details, P4 2.8C, Gigabyte GA8knxp, stock fan and heatsink, Antec lan boy case (blowing out of the case). Ive just studied the bios and put a bit of heat alerts. Well . I heard some squeaking when I was playing a game, and after closer inspection, using gigabytes “easytune4 Hardware Monitor” I found this:

: 60 degrees C
CPU fan: fan RPM
SYS 2600: 2600 RPM

now . . while only in windows etc is 41 degrees C.

SHould I care? Is there anything I can do?

Thanks much for anyhelp,
Spencer “dont want to blow up new computer”

Re:Hey,
It is in a computer desk thing but it has about 1.5 feet behind it…before the wall.

I'm just trying out that software now, thanks for the links!

Re:The case isn't stuffed into a restrictive space like a computer hutch, is it? A 19C temperature swing seems a bit higher than what most people see, although it could easily also be an inaccuracy in the monitoring software too. You might try Motherboard Monitor 5: link to free download (http://mbm.livewiredev.com/download.html) and here are the notes for Gigabyte motherbords: link (http://mbm.livewiredev.com/comp/gigabyte.html)

Re:Great, I'll do that!

Thanks very much guys,
Spencer

Re:Yes a case fan in the bottom front sucking in cool air would help a lot. I think you can even put 2 if it's like other Antec cases that have a built in HD cooler.

Put as many fans as you can. :)

Re:Yes you shuold have a case fan in front to draw in air. The thermal pad is fine at stock speeds.

Re:Hey,
Thanks very much for the replies.

That 41C was at idle, it went all the way up to 60C under load.

I have one additional case fan that I placed at the rear of the case. It blows out of the case.

The stock heatsink had a thermal tape on the bottom, so i used that. Is that usually a problem?

Would a case fan at the front help much, or should i just get a different CPU fan+heatsink?

Thanks again,

Spencer

Re:Those temps aren't that bad. If you're really worried you could possibly upgrade that stock heatsink to a better one, or possibly add some more fans to the case. How many case fans are you running anyway? Oh and did you use the thermal pad or some as3 when you put on the heatsink?

Re:41C is not that bad. If it is kind of warm in your house the CPU could easily reach 60c with stock cooling under load. Do you have a bunch of cables and crap blocking airflow, Any additional fans? I would set the fan warnings at 70c for the cpu and 60c for system/pwr.

Re:Hey,
I'm just looking for help…haven't heard anything!
I'm paranoid to play any games now!

please let me know what you guys think,
Regards, Spencer
