Professional Hard Drive Recovery [laptop hard drive] [hard drive recovery]

Q: Hi All,

I have a (80GB, Hitachi – I think), who is dead. It does not spin up, although I hear the engine start working when the system is turned on. I have no reason to believe that the drive has no physical harm (beyond the obvious) – that is made. I believe that the data is still intact on the platters in drive.

I have pictures and documents are 4 months in China, and I would definitely hate to lose them. In the past, I would have put such a drive in the freezer, which I know sounds crazy, but I heard it works and actually worked for me once before. However, in this case I am particularly attached to the capacity of the station and would really really really like to get them back.

Can anyone recommend a professional service? Ive gotten a few quotes from the past few days, and they all seem to be in the $ 1,000-u003e $ 1500 range this drive, which Ludacris is even with how much I want this stuff back. I seem to remember seeing a place in the past that prices were in the $ 100 – $ 300 range, but can not absolutely positive, and certainly can not remember the name. Do you know one?

Im willing to spend a few hundred dollars, but would like something professional (otherwise I could just stick in the freezer and hope for the best), and less than $ 500 or so. Any recommendations anyone? PLEASE?

Best Answer: Hi,
The easiest way to do this is to remove the hard drive from the enclosure and mount it in the pc as a separate drive.

Just remember to set the jumpers on the back to slave if you are using it with another drive on the same lead.

Otherwise leave it as the master and use a separate channel.

If the data can be seen then, it means that the enclosure is fault, if it can't be seen the drive has failed and the only way to get the data off is to use a recovery service.

However recovery services are VERY expensive.

Re:You won't get hardware data recovery for "a few hundred dollars".

The fact that it's a 2.5-inch drive will make things even tougher and pricier.

Any legitimate place with a clean room will run from $500 to $3500. Our average has been around $2000.

Re:I think you will be spending a minimum of $1000 because of the fact that it is mechanically dead. It's going to require disassembly in a cleanroom. Try OnTrack. They are expensive but I hear they are good.
