Quiet alternative to Lite-On drives [quiet one] [jet engine]

Q: I have to build systems with Lite-On drives for a few years now. It seems hit or miss situation whether I be a noisy or a .

I feel really bad run that brand new system to a friend or family member with a noisy drive. I have two systems, each built for a friend and his wife. Identical Lite-On burners. Are, you could barely hear. Hers sounded like a . I could go and on.

Yes I could RMA the drive, but its a crap shoot on whether the replacement will be shut or noisy.

I bought the last of their drives, and am looking for recommendations on quiet CDRW and CD-ROM drives.

Edit: looks like this post (http://subscriber.) ($ MySite / messageview.cfm? catid = 27 u0026 threadid = 1238134) has answered my question. Should have looked a bit first and did a search. O

Check out SilentPCReview's "Storage" forum. There's a bunch of posts about this. I don't follow them too close but I think "Samsung" and "LG" drives are mentioned quite often.
Hey thanks for the link. Lot's of good info there.

Re:I would agree with the others that mention Samsung. I have also used the bargain priced Kypermedia (Benq) drives and found them to be very quiet and smooth running. My Liteon's do work well, but are loud compared to these.

Re:FWIW I must have received one of the "good" ones (LiteOn 52x burner) as it isn't any noisier than the 48x it replaced. I've read that the Samsung drives (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=manufactory&catalog=5&manufactory=1077&DEPA=1&sortby=14&order=1) are good performers and quiet.

Re:I agree. I have a 48X in my machine and it is very quiet.

But on a new build, they want to see that 52X.

Re:52X Lite-On CD-RW drives are very loud.
The 40x and 48x models are much quieter.
