Reset CMOS? again and again . [cd drive] [cmos]

Q: I have my computer to put together this summer, and brought him to school with me – ran fine until a few months ago .

first the stopped working, and just reading CDs (writing)
then one time I went to turn – it powered up fine, but there was no way to boot sequence.

no bios, it was just walk .

i moved the jumper on my motherboard to reset the , which was successful.

now Im getting this problem 2 times per month, while moving the jumper only works sometimes .

i want to be self-sufficient, but there are problems that go over my head: o

any help would be greatly appreciated.

i got fd over because I have access to a lab I spent all night writing! : Disgust: 977 503 – at least in my lab professor was understanding and I may be an advance on 977 503 9775 extension.

Thanks 03

ps – the rig in my profile isnt present, but i cannot change at the moment

Re:i dont think its permenantly messed up – like i said before it has happened quite a few times.

it seems to be the only fix for the problem, but i dont think it has ever been turned on while in the reset position.

ill keep working on it.

Re:It definitely sounds like a dead or low Battery Problem. You might try to replace it, could be a very cheap/easy way to fix your problem. Have you left the computer running with the clear jumper shorted? It is possible that some boards will be damaged by doing this. A good rule of thumb is only to use that jumper as a diagnostic/last resort method. Checking Asus tech support faqs/emailing them couldn't hurt either, it's always possible someone else has had this problem as well and Asus may know a fix.

Re:No, i havent tried without the cd-rom drive.

i will try that asap – for now i have to go to the lab for which i am lab-reportless.

ill be sure to give it a try at around 1-2 when i get back.

Thanks.

i have never removed it when resetting the
It shouldn't usually, but sometimes they just drain. So have you tried booting without that cdrom drive installed?

Re:It would help if you listed the model of motherboard as well as other components.

My first guess would be to try booting with that cd writer removed, though.
And my second guess would be to replace your battery.
