Q: Something happened to my installation of Windows XP that when I right click on a text file (or any other file for that matter) the machine hangs for 10 to 15 seconds before bringing up the context menu.
I Ad Aware and have run hijack this and removed all spyware found.
I even reinstall Windows XP over the top (upgrade) and still the problem persists.
I have tried using a standard VGA driver and still the problem persists
I have downloaded the ForceWare 71.89 drivers and they do not determine the issue.
any other suggestions on where I need to find this one would apprieciated problems.

Re:Solved.
Right Click context menu can be the culprit and thier is a good artical on how to trouble shoot it here:
Slow Right Click (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/slowrightclick.htm)
This was not found to be my problem and upon further investigation I found that Right-click is extremely slow only when the Network is enabled.
The solution can be found here:
Right Click is extremely slow only when Network is enabled (http://windowsxp.mvps.org/rcdelay.htm)
In my case when I searched the registry for the machine name of my old PC as this is the only other PC on my network, what I found was that FlashFXP.EXE was trying to launch from the networked PC that when it is OFF causes the slow right click behaviour. I cleaned up these entries and bingo all is well.
I even remember that after building my new PC i ran Flash FXP from the network share on my other PC as I had not installed it on my new PC yet to transfur some files from my XBOX, little did I know the performance impact this little act had on my PC.
Mental note to self – Don't run apps from the network unless the machine is on 24×7

Re:You probably installed something that added a right-click context menu item and that app is slow to respond. Easiest fix is to use system restore to go back to a restore point prior to the problem occuring.

Re:I had this happen to me a while back going from ti4200 to 4600. Uninstall all the nvidia video drivers and rerun it. You might have to get driver utiltiy cleaner also. give this a try. Use the Nvidia video drivers though. Make sure you include the Nvidia desktop utility. good luck
