Q: Can someone please explain to me or point me to some links on how I can share my broadband connection with two Ethernet cards in one system with the DSL and ethernet card in the other? Ive heard that this is possible. Go and defeat these disadvantages? I have all the parts, but not sure how to go about it. I am running my own searches. But anyone with some knowledge will help accelerate my quest.
UPDATE: Everything works fine. Took me a while to figure out that I only had to select Dial-Up adapter instead of my NIC that connect to my DSL DSL modem.
Earthlink counts as dial-up because you need every time you want to connect to work online . Also in the network of properties that you can see a Dial-Up adapter exists, and uses this to justify the internet.
So in setting up ICS (Internet Connection sharring) amony two computer on a dial up broadband connection, while Install questions u0026; quot; which method you use to connect to the Internet to select u0026quot; u0026quot, dial-up adapter u0026quot, instead of your network card is connected to your broadband modem.
Hope this helps:).
Re:I got a 24th cross-over ethernet cable for free. I exchanged one of my old 24th straight cables, and said to the clerk I bought this one last week and needed the cross-over.;)
Hey, what can I say! I'm broke:D
Re:Hmm….doesn't work…..gotta go buy some 24ft cross-over ethernet cables. Thanks for the help guy!
Re:If I didn`t have too many pints last night, I am sure you need cross-over for BOX to BOX.
Re:I think I need a cross-over cable to make a link from computer to computer.
Architeching Your Network (http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/ics-install-arch.asp)
Can anyone verify this? Or will the straight do fine?
Re:Prolly straight-through, den.
Put a little bit of Vaseline on the end of the plug. :Q
Re:My SmartLink card doesn't light up when I put it in:(
Re:I could explain how to physically check if the cable is Crossover or Straight-Through, but it would easier to just plug the cable into the NIC's and test it.
Pay attention to the NIC lights.
Good luck!
Re:guy I have a ethernet cable but I'm not sure if it's straight, or crossover.
It was used previously on a hub to computer connection.
I will be now using it from NIC to NIC connection in compliance to the cheap option. Will it work or do I need to get another cable.
Taking it one step at a time.
Ryan
thanks for the info/link btw!
