Q: So I recently got this Hot Deal (http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=18u0026threadid=200930). Im planning on selling the Cavier on eBay and keeping the Raptor.
Question is, you think it worthwhile for me to sell my dual Barracuda and another for the Raptor RAID-0 to get? Im only using 14GB on my current RAID setup anyway.
Re:I am also looking into purchasing a raptor drive as my os drive. Right now I have 2 WD80's as c and d. My mboard has onboard raid, do you guys think I should raid up these two for storage along with my raptor? I'm not too familiar with raid to be honest, which setup would be best? A quick reference would be appreicated and then I could search from there.
thx
Re:I already did. Got the one from Dell and the other from NewEgg. The dell drive will be here Monday. The NewEgg drive should be here Tuesday.

just do it
Re:1) k…get the other 1 but make sure you are OK with the minor noise increase.
2)Good then you can show us the increase of the ICH5 (please compare it to shuttleteams benches)
3) Upgrade from SATA 150 which you already have?
Choice is your anyways …

I wouldn't bother switching SATA RAID set-ups, unless you have money to burn and want to sacrafice Space. The PCI bandwith is probably already taxed. Why not wait for SATA300 (http://www.st.com/stonline/prodpres/dedicate/datastor/ata/sata300.htm)? Only reasonable benefit I see is a 5year warranty with the Raptors but by the time your Cuda's run out, hopefully SATA300 will be here and you'll want a new SATA chipset/MoBo and have the cash for it..
1) I've already bought the other Raptor from NewEgg
2) PCI bus is not taxed. I have an Abit IC7 with ICH5-R. SATA RAID-0 is running off the southbridge, hence it's not on the PCI bus.
3) SATA300? Puhlease. SATA150 has barely made it's way into the forefront yet. If I kept waiting and waiting for new technologies, I'd never upgrade.

Re:Well, since you're already running RAID0, you're familiar with its limitations and possible problems.
The smaller size (68.9 GB *actual*) is obviously not an issue either! Why not?
The performance is very good (http://www.shuttleteam.com/tests/raptorraid.htm) and the only way you're gonna get better performance than this is to spend MUCH more money on a SCSI RAID setup! Trust me on that one!
