Q: Okay, so I went to my mother and she said that the search bar had just appeared on her desktop (P3/933Mhz, W2K Pro). I have updated Ad-Aware and Spybot, and ran them both. The only thing was something out of the ordinary Spybot found a “Enliven” cookie that sends info from the search bar for them. Purified, but the search bar remains. Anyone heard of / had this problem before? How the heck do I get rid of?
Oh yes, she uses IE6
Best Answer: Go to Add/Remove programs and see if anythign Yahoo is in there, uninstall that.
For the taskbar, right click on it and go to properties. Then uncheck "hide inactive icons." With that unchecked, they will always show up.
How To Build Your Own Tiki Bar, Tiki Hut or Tiki Furniture
Re:No, it's a search bar. Or maybe a box. You know, it says "Search The Web", with a little magnifying glass just after it, a field for typing your search in, a GO button, and it has this thing called "Top Searches" at the bottom. When you mouse over it it expands (drops down), with topics like
Live Psychic
Online Gambling
Viagra
Home Loans
You get the picture.
It seems to be permanently anchored to the upper right part of the screen, right where you close programs on the X.
This thing just reeks of B.S., and I can't seem to find anyway to get rid of it.
How You Can Finally Achieve Top Search Engine Rankings
Re:Not sure if this applies as you said a search bar not an address bar. You can drag "my computer" icon to the edge of your screen and create a new toolbar. By right clicking this toolbar and selecting "toolbars" you can select which toolbars are displayed, one of which is the address (Search?) bar. By unchecking all toolbars, they will disappear.

Is there a list somewhere of what the processes are in the Task Manager? There's something called 'WZQKPICK.EXE' that I don't recall ever seeing before, but when I disabled it the system got all screwy.
Best way is to throw it in Google.

Re:Thanks for the help. I checked Add/Remove Programs, and there's nothing there that shouldn't be.

I'd check for questionable things under add/remove programs if both Ad-Aware and Spybot missed things. It definitely sounds like spyware. I'm surprised those programs didn't catch it though… they're usually excellent!
Yes, it does sound like spyware. You might want to Ctrl+Alt+Del to track down the running process so you can delete it from your system.
