Q: I have a small network in my office using the Actiontec 1524 wired router / gateway (router with 4 wired LAN ports and one WAN port and nothing else) who Qworst our DSL service. It works fine, but I ought to extend to pick up a couple printers and a few new computers. I am thinking of picking up another router that some printer ports (preferably a USB 1 Parallel has u0026), which would make life a lot easier. But Ive never done this before, so half behind a router first and do not know how difficult it could be. I think its not really a big deal, but I thought I ask first. I would like to avoid replacing the Actiontec as it works well (and it is not broke .). The Actiontec supports an add-in wireless card but I prefer to keep wired.
Any any suggestions on which router? On setup?
Thanks

Thanks for your help. To minimize all the issues I'll get a switch and just run the old printer locally off one of the PCs.
Get a printer server because then you can use a parallel cable if your printer does not support Ethernet connection. I usually prefer HP printer servers or whatever brand you have generally has a printer server out there that goes directly on your switch/router.

Re:To begin with I would not get a printer server but a Printer that it is Network capable, the price differential is not so big. The ad-on printer servers usually support only the lowest common capacity of most printers.
Whether you want a second Router or a switch depends on how you would like to arrange the Network topology. A second Router, as a Router, would split your Network into two.
(Example for such an arrangement, http://www.ezlan.net/shield.html )
Otherwise, as posted above, get a Switch.

Re:don't buy a router, buy a switch, as that is what you would use the second router for anyway.
