Primary Master: Asus 50x CDROM
Primary Slave: Pioneer 10x DVDROM
Secondary Master: Yamaha 8×8x24 CDRW
Secondary Slave: Zip drive letters 250
My go:
J: Asus
K: Pioneer
L: Zip250
M: Yamaha
What? Should not the Yamaha L: and Zip250 M:?
(Yes I S: via I: hard disk partitions . its a mess, and I intend to fix it now but ATM that is my drive letters, and the actual letter is not the point)

Some drive problems can be easily fixed by yourself using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

Ok, I just finished installing Win2k
Now it goes
C: First Hard drive's primary partition
D: Second Hard drive's primary partition
E: Zip 250 Drive
F: First Hard Drive's logical drive
G:,H: 2nd hard drive's logicals
I:,J:,K: CDRoms
Lol so now my Zip Disk takes priority to everything but primary paritions.

win98 detects the order of my drives fine….win2k does it differently…fvcked up in my opinion…
anyway, i bet if u put the zip drive as primary slave, it would give it drive J:
i think it's due to the fact that it's a zip drive, which is treated slightly differently than rom drives…

Re:In my BIOS I went and hit AutoDetect.
That sets all my drives to what they are in the BIOS (this is not the same as AutoDetecting every startup) So it's actually set as Zip drive in the BIOS.
It does appear at the top of the list when it's showing me what drives and PCI cards are install (right before Starting Win98 message).
So it might be that it has higher priority…but then shouldn't it appear before my other CDROMs as well?
lol like I said I don't really care I just found it odd…
Re:Windows 98se, and windows 2000 both arrange my drives in whatever order they feel like, including drives on RAID cards. I have never had a problem because of this.
There have to be parameters to how OSs configure drive orders, but they must also be more complex than simple master/slave relationships.
Not that I've ever been in one…
Re:Maybe the Zip disk gets higher priority than a CD-ROM/CD-RW. If you have a hard disk as Secondary Slave, it would appear before a CD-ROM on the Secondary Master…I've seen that happen.

seriously though, in bios do you have auto detect for the zip or have you user defined it as a zip drive?
