Q: So Im bringing it home to try figure before I actually need to know how to go about doing this for a client. Anyway, I tried following Microsofts (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb; en-us; q324749) instructions, but Im unclear on what computers I should use for the steps.
This is what Ive done so far:
I configure the server to the aptly named “Server” on domain home.local. I configure DNS server on the server, and install Active Directory. Within AD Users Console, I add user “Justin,” and point its local profile path to C: Profiles Justin.
I then log onto the workstation as local administrator, and copy the local profile for “Justin” to the Admin Server Profiles Justin. (At this point, I need to enter passwords to log on the network path, because I can not figure out how to log in and copy Administrator.HOME Justin profile)
I then removed from the Administrator, and login as Justin . HOME. Configuratieschermu003e Systeemu003e Geavanceerdu003e Profiles is checked to roam. I make a number of files on the desktop and then check server log out.
I Profiles Justin Desktop. It empty.
Any ideas?

I've currently got the server's "C:\Profiles" folder shared to everyone on the domain to just get things working. Should the Justin subfolder be set explicitly?
I read it wrong. He meant that he was allowing access to all uses temporarily. I read it as if he was going to leave it that way.
my bad.

Re:But you are not supposed to share that folder with everyone.
Re:It pops up an alert window requesting that I use a local path.
Edit: I think I may have gotten it working, but I'm not done testing. Right now it's saving and reading the profile from my server. I deleted the "Profiles\Justin" folder on the server, set "Profiles" permissions to share with everyone on domain "home," then logged in as Justin from the workstation. It created a folder on the server that I took control of and am tinkering with.

When I open AD Users on the server and goto Justin>Profile, it explicitly requests a profile path local to the server. It's Server 2003.
This is just not right. What happens when you try entering \\servername\share\%username%?

Re:did you set up share permissions AND NTFS permission correctly? that would be another cause.

Re:Huh? You shouldn't be putting a local profile path in there. It should always be \\server\share\%username%
Re:I tried using the \\Server\Profiles\Justin source, but 2003 explicitly requests the local profile path. So I entered C:\Profiles\Justin.
Could anything else be out of order? Thanks for such a quick response!
Re:Looks like you forgot to configure the account to use the roaming profile.
In AD Users and Computers, double-click on the user account and go to the profile tab. For profile path, type in \\servername\sharename\justin.
Also check the application log on the client machine. That should tell you what is happening when the user logs in and out.
