Q: My brother is seriously interested in this with his voice / acoustic guitar. Currently he is using onboard sound on ECS k7s5a because I do not know what kind of cards are out there for things like this, and I know Jack about microphones. I think he has an internal pickup on his acoustic, so he will not have my guitar. I also need recommendations on software to mix tracks, edit the music, and I know this is probably too expensive, but it should tabbing music. I really do not know what is possible and economically feasible for a computer, can someone enlighten me? I also think if he really wants to play this stuff, he has some hi-fi speakers HiTech, some with better sound quality than the Labtec Pulse 424s . Perhaps Z560s, they are closer to the price than Klipsch . Maybe he could just keep his Labtec invent a really good headphones . but as I said I know almost nothing about these things . Thanks in advance for your help. In case you need to know for some reason, here is the size of its current hardware .

The Middle Voice Method: The Secret to Great Singing
Re:The only problem I have with the Audigy is that it is set to record at 48,000hz. That means whenever you have completed a tune, you have to convert it to 44,1– to burn it to CD. You lose a little in the process, but it might be just fine. One great thing about the audigy is the Soundfont support. There are tons of sites to download free soundfonts giving you a huge library of sounds rightt off – I own an Audigy Value for that reason only. If he is not sure about the items I mentioned, an Audigy Platinum will be fine. Just make sure when recording to always record at 48,000 – if not there will be some serious timing issues. Good luck

Re:In talking to him more and showing him some of this stuff I'm not quite sure he's willing to jump that far into it yet. Money constraints, and he's never really played with mixers and such. He can play guitar though. I was looking at the Audigy Platinum eX, though, and it seems to have all the features and software needed for a beginner. What do you think of it? Obviously you seem to know what you're talking about (and with this topic, I sure as hell don't). I will definitely keep these links around though, in case he does become abit more serious about it, and has the money. Thanks alot for your help. I'm also recommending the z560's to him, if he wants better speakers… one of the problems though, is that in the room the computer is in, the acoustics are kind of sorry, and the space is small. So 5.1 might not appeal to him too much. I spose he can always move the computer though. Like I said, thanks alot for the input, I really appreciate it, and so does he. Please let me know what you think of the Plat Ex, especially the software bundle (the relevant titles here are Vienna Soundfont Studio 2.3, Cubasis VST Creative Edition, and Wave Lab Lite).

Re:If he is really serious about it here is what I would do for someone starting out:
Sound Card: Midiman Audiophile (http://www.midiman.com/products/m-audio/audiophile.php)
Mixer: Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro (http://www.mackie.com/Products/VLZ_PRO_Series/1604VLZPRO.asp)
Mic: Shure SM57 (http://www.shure.com/sm57.html) or Shure SM58 (http://www.shure.com/sm58.html)
Speakers: Low end Monitir speakers if he wants to do some good mixing – search under "powered studio monitors"
Audio Apps: The sky is really the limit here – some of the more well known choices are SONAR (http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SR/SR1.html) , Cubase (http://www.steinberg.net/products/index.phtml?action=showline&id=030101&sid=04132271) , Cool Edit (http://www.syntrillium.com/cep/) & there are more & also "light" versions of these apps. Look around, ask him some questions, figure out a budget and go from there.

Re:I don't have anything to suggest, but tell your brother to pursue that line of interest as far as he can.
P.S. For a little money, the Z560s are pretty much the best you can get.
