Should I only thermal grease on the small snail in the center of an FC-PGA CPU? [thermal grease] [dumb question]

Q: I know it sounds like a , but I can only apply to the fat slug in the center or the entire top of a P3 FC-PGA CPU?

Re:Pure acetone is the best I've ever tried! This is exactly the same as nail polish remover, minus possible perfume in the latter… :)

Re:For 9.99 you to can have SLUG BE GONE GUW by using a can of wd-40 rapped in plastic.
We can sell it to everyone and be rich.

Use alocohol that you can get from eckerds or wherever. ;)

Re:Actually, scrape it off with a softer than the metal material, like a popsicle stick. You can get most of it that way, then use a solvent to remove the gum. See if you can find some Goof Off, or even nail polish remover should work. Mineral spirits and those kinds of things work too.

Re:so I've heard, Steve..what's the best way to remove that thermal pad? just heat it up a bit and scrape the gunk off?

Re:if you apply it on the whole thingy, the heatsink wont even touch it except for the

<< slug >>

Re:Actualy that slug is the cpu itself. So yes you only aply paste on the slug. Dont use a thermal interface pad with thermal compound tho.

Re:Uh, Wasif, don't use TIM (thermal interface material). If you got a heatsink that came with a pad on it, remove it and just use thermal paste. :D

Re:bless you, kind sir…Tiny Tim will be most happy now..
