I just bought Sims 2 DVD. The box says it needs an 8x DVD drive or higher! In my old computer I have a 5x player. I wonder if it would work?
anyone know? going too slow to be worth? Or should I just buy a new DVD on my computer?

well idon't think this is it.
I booted into safe mode and was able to install the game. NOw the error i am getting is that dx9c whatever didnt install
I havent had this much trouble installing a game in years!

I don't think it has anything to do with speed. it was explained to me that many new game dvds have data printed in a certain way or certain region of the DVD that old drives can't access.

Yet another thread where you're bitching because the Sims 2 won't run on your W2K box. Shut it already, return the game to the store and go away. The game works just fine on countless other people's machines, mine included. EA doesn't need your money. You will not be missed.

Are you sure about that being a 5x burner? Thats an odd speed for optical storage. One thing you could to is make an ISO image and mount the image using a virtual drive. Then it'll be as fast as the HD.
yeah thats what i thought. BUT the case (came out of a OLD Emachine i had) said 5x DVD rom.
