Q: I recently bought a WD 120GB HD and 2 sinxp1394 0.
s a fresh install of winXP (and installed raid drivers with F6 when prompted Knew, disks formatted with NTFS)
Everything seemed to work well . and it does, until I shutdown my system.
When my computer startup seems like it can not find . the raid and try to boot from the CD if I instead.
But after I get that error, then press the reset button to boot fine and boots from the councils raid.
Wild:
Not sure, but it seems that the RAID settings are loaded during the first boot, and then using my system to restart again.
I have no idea how to get this to work . . any help would be greatly appreciated .
Re:I would check the manual to see if there is some switch that you need to set through bios to enable it to boot from the raid controller. Also, you said it tried to boot from the cd, so, I would disconnect the cd drive and try to get it booting from the ide raid. it really sounds like a problem with a boot order issue.
Also, I check the manual (Giga manual) to see how to set the jumpers for the raid configuration for your drives, but I would assume there would both have to be set as single master.
good luck
Re:Thanks for your input…
How shall I set the jumpers on my drives?
I currently have both hdd's and my cd-drive set on master.
The cd-drive is connected to the regular IDE port, while the hdd's are both connected to the raid ide-ports(1 hdd per raid ide-port).
I have tried to reflash the bios, reinstalling the gigaraid drivers in windows but that didnt help(will try it again tonight just to make sure it works).
I know that my psu sometimes run a little low on the 12V line, but I doubt that this could be the problem…
Re:If still not working, I would try clearing the cmos, or even downloading the bios, and reflashing the bios for the system board. Check all the cables from the hard drive and mb. Make sure the jumpers on the hd are set properly.
Re:Crap..didn't work =(
Also checked my bios version and boot settings….
Not completely sure about the boot settings, but the only available boot option that seems to make sense is 'SCSI'…..cause useing HDD0 or similar options dont work.
Re:Think I might have found the solution, found some info on Gigabytes homepage.
It seems like I need to increase my 'boot time delay' in BIOS to make it work.
Will try it tonight…..
Re:I am not familiar with that mb, but you may want to go into BIOS settings and check the boot order of your computer. Additionally, check the bios date of your system, and make sure its current.
