SMC 7004BR w/1.93s suddenly needs power cycle! [smc 7004br] [replaytv]

Q: I got my for a long time. I have some computers with a bunch of OSs and 3 ReplayTVs worked fine for connected.

All MONTHS.

All of a sudden, I noticed that the Internet was not found and the reps could not connect to the daily guide info.

My woman update saw this as well and a power cycle the router fixed it. A few days later the same happened.

Does someone there knows why this would stop working? I have not configured! I do notice that when this happens, I can not even put the router config screen the browser, so its freezing the good router!

TIA

What I meant was that when it freezes, it is not just the Internet (WAN) that is gone, but that the 7004BR will no longer send the Status Page. A power cycle brings everything back. You could also pop open the case and see if anything inside is non-soldered – sockets and/or plugs – and gently reseat…

I can move it to see if it is heat.

P.S. All of my "junkbox" stuff is for Ham Radio. My computer stuff is all over!! :-)

I wonder if it has to be the 7004BR itself and not a Replay or Comcast at fault. I think this as when it freezes, I can not even get the config page. I thought if Comcast had a problem, or I was having Lease issues, I may not get to the WEB, but should still be able to get to the SMC's config page.Since the "poor design" of the SMC7004BR put the LEDs on the top, it used to sit on top of the "hot" D-Link DSS-5+, which sat on a shelf a few inches above the 24×7 monitor. So, there was always a LOT of heat involved – when the DSS-5+ was removed, all random problems with the SMC7004BR disappeared…

Yes, you should always be able to get to the 7004BR's Status Page. Try unplugging it for a few hours to allow the insides to cool off and then blowing a 4" fan on it the next time you power it up to see if it buys you more time. [Everyone has a 4" 120VAC fan in their junkbox, right?].

Re:Not to change the subject but I have 3 Replays. Even added a 160GB drive to one.

P.S. We can change this further and I can say I have tried almost all Linux distro's and have found Debian the best for many reasons on my config! :-)

Re:Well, the USA site has 1.93s which is the latest. Europe lists a higher level.
I find it funny that the SMC USA site seems to have just quit older product updates. Some say that 1.95N is what I should be using.

Re:I had that same kind of problem with a 7004AWBR, and a firmware update fixed it. I don't know if there's more recent firmware for yours, but it's worth a look…
