Q: and are bundled in the recovery disc, but I have fished the beta 2 Disc .
error message is
the Windows Boot Configuration Data file does not contain a valid OS entry
Best Answer: This is a common problem when installing an operating system, you should have only installed Windows 7 once and when prompted the first time typed in the product key. The installation process for windows is as follows. Files are installed to the computers hard drive, the files are made into a small working operating system so the main system can be installed using it, the computer then restarts (If you touch nothing and let it load) windows 7 continues to install and it's around now you get asked questions like users and other settings. Once done Windows 7 will start and Windows 7 is installed, you could have entered the serial number during installation or within 30 days of installation. When you installed Windows 7 the 2nd time you skipped the setup of the 1st Windows 7 but a file used by the 2nd Windows 7 install is used called boot.ini
This file (boot.ini) is a list of installed operating systems and will normally use the most recently installed operating system as the default and load this, when you allowed Windows 7 to install the 2nd time it loaded the 1st installs files when it restarted and then continued like normal, so now your boot.ini file has 2 sets of files on it, a fully working version of Windows 7 and a corrupt version of the installer files for Windows 7 (Installing Windows 7 twice will corrupt these files). To solve this you can either find the boot.ini file and modify it by either removing the hard drive and putting it in another computer or by using the Windows 7 installer CD, you should be able to access a console on the installer CD and rebuild the boot.ini file. Im sure you can find tutorials for this online, this is a problem i have hit before with Windows 7 and it sounds exactly the same. BTW you must have built your computer correctly if it turned on

Re:Hmm. Think you might be interested in installing a different boot loader like grub? Maybe it might be able to correctly detect the windows partition.

Re:Does the vista beta 2 disc have a recovery console option when you boot the cd? If so, try going in and type the 'fixboot' command.
