Someone else has touble with AMD? [e mail address] [thunderbird system]

Q: I am in the process of building a and had a question. I went to the AMD website and found the contact us u0026quot; u0026quot e-mail address and writing for them. I knew she probably many e-mails, so I tried to be patient. 1 week later, no answer. I emailed them back and told them that I had written, but had received no response. The next day I received an email from them, a standard form letter in which I went to their website. I wrote back telling them (nicely) that I had on their website, but the answer to my qustion was not there and they could please answer my question. That was one week ago, no answer. This is my first AMD system, AMD is always so bad with the technical support? I wonder if I have the Abit KT7 board to sell, and I go to buy Intel. Everyone had a problem with AMD technical support? Intel is just as bad? Any advice is appreciated! THANKS

Re:Thanks everyone for your replies. I know if it was a hardware question that this forum is the ONLY place to ask– everyone here is ALWAYS very helpfull!!!
But what I was asking AMD was, if, when, and where the 1G Thunderbird would be available in a retail box, something only they would know. Not a big deal, I thought that was a easy question that they could answer in a few seconds.
As for your questions,–Why don't I just call? Maybe I missed it but I couldn't find any phone # on AMD's web site.– And I agree–unless the chip is a defect, there is no reason why you would e-mail tech support, but —-There are 7 e-mail's listed on their site 1.tech support 2.literature 3.investor questions 4.feedback 5.reseller program 6.job opportunities 7.finding a individual by name. I thought feedback would be the one to use, but it says right under it "For product inquiries, use the technical support addresses listed above" Maybe I asked the wrong person but that was the only e-mail that I thought made sense to use. Oh well, it wasn't big deal. But if they can't answer a simple question it makes me wonder if it is worth the extra money and time waiting for a retail box CPU just to get an extra warranty that won't do any good if you can't get service. Anyone else have an opinion on buying OEM or Retail CPU"S?

Re:guy,

Whenever I've emailed AMD their response has been prompt and professional. Usually there is a turn around of a couple hours for their automated email system to kick in, and then you must respond to the message and acknowledge that you have read their FAQ's and browsed their website, etc. After that I haven't waited more than a couple days. Since you had to wait two weeks for the automated response, I'd say their was an email mixup.

But, like everyone said, you'd probably get much better general support from these forums.

Re:I`ve just gone from Intel to AMD based PC & to be honest there is no difference in stability on my new system(I`m also a gamer) so I`m a very happy AMD customer.

Re:I called AMD tech support once to ask them about certified fan/heatsinks. I was on hold for no longer than 1 min, and the person was very nice. I also know a friend who wrote an email to AMD requesting those little shiny AMD sticker logo's that go on your case. He got a responce the same day, and they shipped 20 to him for free :)

Re:My experience with company tech support has always been bad with email — out of 6 occasions, I recieved 0 responces (from 6 different companies).

That said, if you problem is with the assembly of your system and not the chip, I can understand why. Why don't you ask the question here on the anandtech forum, where you'll have more answers than you can shake a stick at?
