Q: Heres the situation. If I had SP1, while the progress bar during the Windows logo would be about two full cycles before you go to the windows. Total boats would 20 seconds or fewer. This is exactly the same on two different computers of mine with almost the same startup / registry / service configurations.
To short, I had 0 startup programs, most powerful registry tweaks (5 = prefetch, disable paging executive, iopagelocklimit, alwaysunloaddll), and Ive only almost the bare minimum services running after startup. Did a defrag, and a defrag on boot sectors. There are no viruses or spyware, either. This was after a fresh reinstall.
However, after I installed SP2, I get along with almost 15 bars before going into Windows. Under no circumstances can I even close to the previous startup. Ive read that the prefetch tweak does not work for SP2, but SP2 can be this much slower?

Re:Try defragging your HD… Some of the machines I've installed it on had the same problem until I defragged them.

Re:It could be that installing SP2 reset some of your former disabled services to Automatic, which could also account for part of the problem. You could also try Bootvis to improve boot times for Windows XP
