spoolsv.exe, the devil ! this thing is [spoolsv exe] [win2k machine]

Q: I can not print, add a printer, open the Printer folder without my locked up. I get no errors, just hangs, nothing in the event viewer either. As soon as I try to print something, the spoolsv.exe service goes down and slowly starts eating all the memory and have installed processor.

I “SP2 and it did not work. I am a bit stumped here because I get no errors or anything: (Did a quick search the Knowledge Base luck.

Anyone not had a similar problem?!? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re:I'm working on a W2K box at work and I have a similar problem. When I boot with spoolsv.exe set up to run it starts hogging mem and cpu usage. If I tell it not to start up and then I start spoolsv.exe manually the machine runs fine. However I'm not using any printers whatsoever, I just started loading this from scratch and was experiencing lock ups and found this to be the problem.

Potential Causes?
-DVD Drive
-CDRW Drive
-Dual PIII Processors
-36G SCSI Quantum Atlas
-GF2 GTS
-Novell Client 4.8 for W2K

Help?????????????

ps. i read the article neither of those are runing in the background.

Re:yeah I saw that article but we aren't using Bitware and I don't get any error messages like Q257859 suggests. I even double checked his machine and a few others to make sure the mentioned .exe's were not running. *shrug* I'm about to run my head through a wall :(

Re:Article ID Q257859 (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q257/8/59.ASP?)

Re:printer is an HP Laserjet 5si. I'm just using the default driver that came with win2k. Other people are printing to the same printer, same setup, no problems.

I don't think it's the mouse software because it's been working for quite sometime.

Re:actually when i had a logitech mouse and the older mouseware software is would mess with my spoolsv.exe. Also, scan for viruses

Re:That can be a condition of your printer and printer driver software. If you want any help your gonna have to let us know what printer your using.
