Statement in AMD DDR article, what do you think? [amd] [pentium]

Q: I just read 760 Anand article.

This quote caught my eye as a red head with double Ds:

u003cu003cVan we? ve Seen this level of performance but won? T enough to compete with the 4, fortunately can compete on price and they also have another ace up its sleeve, which they did not disclose. u003eu003e

Whoa! Yet to be unveiled?

What do you think it is?

Do you think a 1.4 or 1.5 GHz processor, or something more exciting?

Re:I think I just figured out what the "ace up the sleeve" is, tests 'super silicon' to beat heat problems (http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/3/15121.html)

Re:If you are referring to my name, it's a line from an old skool rap song. That's good to hear cuz I need some lovin… Hopefully it won't be as pricey as what people are saying the P4 will ship at. It seems like a lot of people are saying (except for Anand) that it (the P4) will suck. Perhaps this is just wishful thinking by the masses, or is there real stats that show this?

Re:It should be out Q4 of this year, Lickem.

Re:Any date on the release of the Mustang? I am craving some info on theis new core. Please tell me it will be out in Q1 of 2001! I need to upgrade and I hate waiting like this!

Re:the branch prediction will defiently help reduce the performance loss with a miss…right now it can slow you down something like 30 cycles with a current tbird and there is an 8% miss rate….ouch….

Re:I doubt it will be an Ace in the sleeve, and i wouldn't like it to be either. I want to be informed of the computing future, not surprised.

Re:I agree, it's probably something that has already been disclosed on 's roadmap. More than likely the Mustang.

Still, it's nice to dream!

What if has a feature they haven't disclosed? An "ace up the sleeve", so to speak.

I don't know what it would be, but it gets my curiousity going.

Re:Another vote for Mustang. :D Seeing the Mustang and the P4 go head to head will be a fight worth seeing. But I think that the Mustang will win in the end. ;)

Given that the P4 has been in developement for years and all that time Intel had no idea of what the competition would be. All had to offer were the K6-X chips, and a Celeron puts those to shame! And then a little over a year ago the Athlon hits the PC world like a bombshell and laid the smack down on the PIII. But we'll have to wait and let the benchmarks reveal the truth. :)

Re:Mustang will probably be a pretty powerful son of a bitch. Longer pipeline by a little, but also increased cache, improved branch prediction, and high clock speeds :)

Re:yeah I'm pretty sure he's refering to the core modification.. u never know though..

Re:I thought Anand's article answered this in the conclusion:

<< In comparison to the upcoming 4, even with DDR SDRAM and the 133MHz FSB it may be difficult for a 1.2GHz Athlon to compete with a 1.5GHz 4 in many benchmarks. may be forced to release a higher clocked Athlon in order to remain competitive performance-wise, however they will almost definitely hold the price to performance ratio crown throughout the rest of the year.

. . . our true hope for the Athlon platform lies in the successor to the Thunderbird core, let's hope that the next incarnation of the Athlon core is a much cooler running one. It should be interesting to see what positions against the 4 after the Thunderbird core is replaced…>>

Uh . . . Mustang?!?

Re: rules…. Their secret stuff will probably always out perform Intel's paperware from now on. :D
