Q: My fathers computer is acting up recently. The computer will freeze, and the floppy drive works as it tries to drive one even if not in the drive to read. The freeze happens every hour or so for about 20 seconds each time. It seems like a kind of spyware, and I just suggested to disconnect the floppy drive, but he needs for his job. Also, several spyware / virus / pest scans are not the problem is corrected. Any ideas on how to fix it, besides getting a new drive?
Best Answer: So you had an old mobo thats been running for years, you thought you could pimp it out with a bios flash. The whole idea of flashing the bios is for the last resort when a mobo has serious hardware problems. NEVER flash a bios if it doesnt need it! You WONT gain anything and quite possibly could damage the board beyond repair. One slip of a bit and youre done. All I could suggest now is a new install of windows.

Re:Go to the BIOS and change the floppy from A to B may help.

Re:This used to be big problem in Win98. Is that what he is running? Try clearing the recently opened documents list.
If it is not 98 or that doesn't work, try disabling the floppy disk scan in your anti-virus (assuming you have an anti-virus)

Re:Hmm, that's what I was kind of thinking. We've actually almost narrowed it down to his firewall, whenever it updates, it looks at the floppy drive, even though the entire update system is internet based.
