“Stuttering” on my celeron566 [rage fury maxx] [abit vt6x4]

Q: System: 566 @
Abit VT6×4
Celeron 566
ATI
10 gig HD
128 Megs RAM
etc.
Running WinME

Problem: Well, I saw this in 3DMark 2000. If there is a constant movement going (in a straight line or so), I can see that stuttering fool. It does this in other games like homeworld when you fly around in the intro, and almost every game where the game is the camera checks for an intro or something. In movies (Avis, MPEG), it is much more noticeable. There is a constant stutter when I play movies. In IE, there are always a lot popdowns or flash on the page, it will be VERY slow scrolling (stuttering at the same time) for it to pass that area on the screen. I do not know what this is from, he does not think of another system, and it did when I had Win98SE. Ive formatted and WinME to see if that fixed, but that did not happen. Any help on this situation would be greatly appreciated!

Re:It doesn't matter if I am running opengl or directx (I believe), since 3dmark is run on directx (right?), then I definately know that it is a directx problem. Defragging doesn't help, nor does closing all programs in the backround. I have tried it many times. I would say it was the hard drive, but it is the same one from my last system (PMMX), and that had no problems with it =\

Re:I had the same problem ,if you have things running in the background(disable them)that should solve the problem,if not well try defrag.

Re:Does it do this anytime a directx is playing or does it also effect OpenGL? Just curious…
ALSO!
If you are using a WD Caviar I had the same problem…if you have a spare HD try that one as well…

Re:It is not a ram problem, nor a speed problem (I can play the movies on a P-MMX200 and it runs fine), so maybe it is the drivers? I does this in any directx version. There isn't any mobo settings I can change to fix this?

Re:Hmm, then i'd wonder about the drivers and the DirectX installation. Doesn't seem to be ram problem.

Re:That's what I thought, but DMA is enabled, and 64k reserved for dma transfers. The HD light barely flashes.

Re:Do you have DMA turned on your hard drive?
What you are describing sounds like disk accesses.
