Q: I have a Seagate 120GB HDD that I was looking to install Windows XP SP1a fast, a good way to optimally partition the disk?
I looked upon this way:
c: (boot-8-10GB)
d: (apps-20-25GB)
rd (storage space remaining)
Would to do the trick?
Ill also installing a Promise RAID card with 8MB cache Maxtor 2×80gb on the machine. 0.
Anything I might have missed or could improve?
Re:Why do people use a seperate partition just for applications?
Never seen the point.
Re:you should use the raid array as your main drive. keep the 120 filled with stuff that dosent need the speed. windows will be faster if you run it from the raid drive.

I sometimes on a single drive machine like to partition into two volumes just so I can copy crap over to the 2nd volume in case of a full format/reinstall. If you have a multi-drive system already I would just save yourself any future grief and leave it as one solid partition. There's not much real need to partition unless you have something specific in mind.
DITTO!
