Q: The most annoying problems in the world are the people whose description begins, “It used to work.”
So .
It used to work. Im not sure what happened between “then” and “now,” but I can not get my 5.1 speakers work on my XP machine. I got my Audigy Gamer before the 5.1 speaker setup instead. The problem now is that they essentially can only send audio through the front channels. Now it does not work, I also tried the onboard sound chip (nForce chipset), which supports 5.1, and it does not either.
I thought it was a physical problem with the speaker. But I can plug the front speaker channels in both the center / subwoofer jack or the back of the speaker system as well and he will come through those channels fine.
Has only someone had a problem like this before or know of a problem like this ? I would greatly appreciate any help . 2 channels just do not cut it. : D need more info and Ill gladly answer. Thanks in advance!

Best Answer: Normally you install drivers 'prior' to installing the new device.
1. Install the newest drivers for the device you are adding whether it is sound or video or printer driver.
2. Turn off your computer.
3. Add the new device.
4. Boot your computer and the system should find the new drivers or you can point the computer to the area where you loaded the new drivers.

Re:Go to creatives site and download the new drivers. Then try to do that. It should work, (better word HOPEFULLY it will work).

Re:Well my 5.1 works fantasic on XP very easy to use. I plugged my 3 3.5 RCA plugs into my 5.1 sound card and did what i wrote in my last post and hasen't failed since. Do u have more than one plugged in your sound card or just the black one? But if your had it working before you'l know what your doing. So i hnestly dont know maybe its the drivers?
Re:Yes, I've done that many times….too many times really. Hoping maybe XP would learn what I was wanting it to fix and say, "Ohhh, THAT'S what you want me to do." But it has been to no avail. XP doesn't have the AI that I'd hoped it had.
Any other suggestions?

Re:GoTo: start – settings – control panel
Click on sound and audio devices.
down the botom in the speaker settings click advanced and make sure you have selected 5.1 surround sound speakers. See if that works. And make sure u have the latest XP drivers.
