Sweet Mother of God, is this Turbo Link PS LOUD! [exaust fans] [many moons]

Q: / cue flashback shimmering sound “

ago, I bought a 1040 Chieftec case . We all know it as an Antec 1040. The PS came with a 420-watt Turbo Link PS, which 92mm + 80mm etc. I knew it was not the best choice for an overclocked rig, so the cabinet has went.

/fast forward a few years built a today

I P3-550 rig, overclocked (FSB 133MHz instead of 100MHz) to 731MHz rig tonight . Turbo Link PS dug out of the cupboard.

: shocked: CRAP! As a freakin vacuum at the car wash! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH! : Shocked:

No exxageration lie or, in this “ANTEC 1040″ I have no fans, only the PS. It is harder than 2 x 1040 cases FILLED with components and runs Trupower Antec PS and Pananflo fans. WAY louder. It sounds like a server room here. (

At first I said, “Ah, but a P3 . HD . if fans do not!” When I was a bit worried . when I fired him.: Roll: Ho-Lee-crap . the rear 80mm fan on the PS plug air as a 120mm high speed beast.: (

No problem, just buy the Panaflo low-CFM equivalents of the fans in your PSU and swap them out. I've done it many times with crappy and loud PSUs and they've always shushed up.

Actually I'd get a fan that had similar CFM levels, but quiet noise levels to stay within design limits. And yeah it does work, my 350W Tsunami is pretty much silent. Just make sure to seal the wires that were soldered with thermal shrinks to protect them.

Re:You think that is loud wait until you see my computer when I use the fan controller and my Vantec Tornado is on its strongest.

Having fun talking to yourself? :D

Worse, he has to repeat himself talking to himself, because he can't hear himself over the fans. :P

Re:This sounds like my previous rig before I upgraded, it sounded like a hair dryer it was so loud. I don't know how I put up with it for over two years. That was back before I new Newegg was out there. I found Newegg and I'm much happier now.;)

I had a turbolink 420w once. It was as loud as you describe and it tried to burn up my system. When I took out the power plug from the motherboard there were 3 or 4 plugs that were black. I got lucky as it didn't damage anything but I will never again use a turbolink.

Well….that's certainly comforting….

So far, so good…no smells….

The rig it's powering is about as low-draw as it gets…hopefully nothign goes wrong!

Re:I am not paranoid!! Stop looking at me!! :Q :D

Just making observations…this thread is definitely OT…maybe not….oh well. ;)

Re:Holy crap, Mike; that sounds like it's LOUD!!

Dude…you should HEAR it!! It's unbelievable. :(

(feel free to chime in, guys!) I like good conversation, but talking to myself gets old quickly!
