Q: Hi all, I built a system
for a friend last summer. Recently there have been serious problems.
System specs:
MSI Neo F Socket 754 (6702)
Athlon 2800
Antec 500 watts ps
Asus ti 4200
Corsair Value Ram (1×512 pc3200)
Windows XP Pro
System temps are all fine.
1. After it boots to black screen will crash after a while (5-10 minutes)
2. It will not restart. No beeps. Running.
3 just everything. If you unplug it and wait for a while it will restart but the same thing I did happens.
What:
Used three different manufacturers in each memory slot. (OCZ, Corsair, turbo)
Changed video card (used for the TI-4200, MX-4000)
Changed hard drive (tried to start with a known good hard drive)
Reattached all cables
Tried different ps
Im guessing is a bad motherboard, or processor. But what I dont understand is that it will boot into Windows and I can start to run programs or go on the internet and then crash.
Thanks, Leigh

I would suggest that you get Avast Home Edition version 4.8.
It is free for personal use and it now protects against spyware, rootkits, and other forms of malwares.

Re:now why would you suspect the cmos battery? all it does is keep juice to the bios settings while the power is off….once power is on, it serves no purpose, if everything you say has been done checks out…then you are down to the motherboard in my opinion…swap it out and see what happens…i am presuming you already took it out of the case and tried it with minimal components hooked up in order to rule out shorting out against the case….

Re:Try going into safemode and do a system restore. It sounds like you could have caught a virus or something. It seems that you could have possibly traced all the hardware problems already, so it could be a software one.
