Having strange problems – Unable to browse certain web pages on my PC, but on the other on my same DSL connection [dsl connection] [couple hours]

My main system with XP Home was not able to cbc.ca or Visit simhq.com the past few hours. I thought maybe their servers were the reason, but I could ping in a command prompt window . So I thought Id try them out on my other PC. I can visit them just fine. The PCs to share a single DSL connection.

Q: I finally got broadband After living in the sticks for six years. My dial-up was quite possibly the worst in the country ;-( It was so bad that the phone would not work when it rained. So now I have this glorious DSL connection, what would you people recommend for security? I am running XP Pro and wonder if the firewall would be sufficient or should I go with something like ZoneAlarm? I am a complete newbie to broadband, so any help would be appreciated.
