Q: Hi, when I download files from a site in Internet Explorer, I can no more than 2 files to download while the other appears to be installed, because when one is finished, another begins .

Anyone have this prob?

Re:Thanks! This patch did work!!!

Re:Ahh.. here we are: How to Configure Internet Explorer to Have More Than Two Download Sessions (http://support.microsoft.com/search/preview.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q282402)

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).

2. Locate the following key in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings

3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value , and then add the following registry values:

"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=Dword:0000000a
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=Dword:0000000a

4. Quit Registry Editor.

Re:I believe there is a key in the registry you can change to fix that problem.. Maxdownload something possibly.. I can't recall what it was, but someone here will more then likely know. If I find it.. I will post it

Re:I already have IE 6.0 installed…

Re:Yeah, i think that's the problem with IE 5.5 and SP1. Try installing SP2 or IE6.
How do I write portable code, so it looks good on a variety of browsers, rather than just Internet Explorer? I want a serious study of HTML and PHP, but also begin. What do you recommend for websites, books, mailing lists, forums and other resources?

Re:thanks for all your help, I appreciate the links and info everyone!

Re:by the way, i somehow found this site today (can't remember how i got it, though)
click me (http://www.alistapart.com/articles/strange/)
quite interesting story they have there … -)

Re:perhaps you might also peruse
http://builder.com.com/

Re:css is one of the ways that enable web designers to separate contents from data.
that is, you put all your raw html data (with no formatting whatsoever) in html file, then use css to style and format your page and make them look all nice and pretty.

if you use css to style your page, you don't need to change the whole html page when you redesign your page. that is to say, for example, if today you create your page with navigation on the left and page contents on the right, but tomorrow you want to put the navigation on the right and contents on the left, you don't need to change the html file to swap the position of the two. All you need to do is to change the entry in CSS file that controls the position and you'll get what you want.

Similarly, if today you want a page with black background and tomorrow you want white, you can just make the changes to css file instead of all html file that you created.

this is just oversimplification of why css is a powerful tool. i'm not good at explaining things.

but anyways, start the web design using css. they're lighter, better, more powerful, although sometimes frustrating ,)

Re:what's the deal with css? I don't know much about it. Can someone give me a big picture?

Re:a good start would be with basic x/html and css over at w3schools (http://www.w3schools.com/)
after you've awed yourself with the cool designs at css zen garden (http://www.csszengarden.com/), head over to a list apart (http://www.alistapart.com/) for the theories and all that.
of course you can try to look around the cool designs and what others have accomplished over at open source web design (http://www.oswd.org/).

and as already mentioned, php has nothing to do with html site design.
css and javascript would be a pain, since they don't always work the same across browsers.
but just like guy, i try to avoid javascript myself. the incompatibility and the fact that most people turn off javascript nowadays …

more css learning can be obtained from css/edge (http://www.meyerweb.com/eric/css/edge/). you might also want to look at the web standards project (http://www.webstandards.org/) for articles and links to resources related to web standards.
if possible, try to avoid the css hacks (which you can read up at p.i.e (http://www.positioniseverything.net/) website, among others). trust me, those will drive you crazy despite the fact that it can help make your css work across major browsers.

my suggestions would be to try designing sites with basic html (with no scripting like php or whatever – just pure html), add in some css to it, play around with it, get comfortable and frustrated with it. after that, add in the php and other scriptings, etc).

oh, one more thing: start designing in mozilla then port it to msie, not the other way around. msie should always be one of the last browsers you test on. you might also want to download opera and see how it looks like.

i would add more, but i guess i've overwhelmed you enough with this lengthy writings ,p

Re:I discovered that my website looks like trash in Firefox.

Why? You must be using some IE specific javascript or something. I avoid javascript for the most part simply because of the browser compatibility issues. I normally do basic html output from my PHP scripts. I know it's simple, but I know it'll work on any browser.

If you want to do good web design, you should read up on CSS. I haven't gotten to it because I do so much other stuff as well…

Re:Originally posted by: guy
I discovered that my website looks like trash in Firefox. I know some HTML and PHP, but I'd like to expand my horizons. How do I write 'portable' code, so it looks good on a variety of browsers instead of just Internet Explorer? I want to begin a serious study of HTML and PHP, as well. What do you guys recommend for websites, books, mailing lists, forums, and other resources?

First of all, PHP is server run, therefore really has no bearing on writing clean HTML code, it generates the HTML code for your browser.

What you need to focus on is learning exactly what everything in HTML will do and how it works. I highly suggest, for most of your coding, that you focus on HTML with CSS.

Re:http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/ everything there works with firefox, but some of it doesn't work to well with IE

Best Answer: With all dial up connections, the fastest you are going to get is 56kbps no matter who you go with. Having that in mind, I would just go with the cheapest you can find.
It offers the qwest, level3 and uunet networks. You must not know how to use DUN

44 to 45 is the best I have ever gotten. Enjoy.

Internet Radio Gold
Re:yeah.. the most you'll hit is like 5K downloading a file. that "accelerated" dialup is pure crap too. most of them just adjust your browser's cach to cach things so you don't have to redownload images all the time. yeah, some will use better compression, but it isn't worth it. sometimes you won't even notice a difference.

but yeah, back to the topic. uncie bob said it best. you're used to broadband, so of course dialup is gonna seem unbearably slow to you.

Internet-Starter-Package
Re:let me take a guess, you've got broadband right? I suspect it seems uber slow to you cause you've forgotten why the phrase world-wide-wait was invented…

from what I remember of dial up, speeds of 40 to 50K are the norm and even if you manage to connect at over 50K the technology allows for the speeds to vary depending on line quality

Q: I keep getting these stupid mistakes do you wish to debug runtime messages

how I can not get them every time I load a page

Best Answer: just run a repair over internet explorer, its probably a toolbar causing the issues http://www.computer-adviser.com/fix-inte…

Registry Error Cleaner
Re:Another option is to use Opera or Monzilla.

Internet Rags-to-Riches
Re:DO THIS:

1)I think this is already set by default, but make sure the box for 'Disable script debugging' is checked

2)open up Task Manager and under the Processes tab see if mdm.exe is running. This is Machine Debug Manager, a support process for debugging. To disable it, You can go to Start-run ==> type msconfig to open up System Configuration Utilities ==> click its Startup tab ==> uncheck the box 'Machine Debug Manager' C:\windows\system\MDM.EXE ==> OK and Exit. Reboot.

3)go to control panel ==> add/remove programs ==> select Microsoft Internet Explorer & Tools from list & click remove ==> you will get 3 options; choose repair & proceed as prompted

Here's a couple links that might help you if none of the above options work:
1 (http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/WinXP/Q_20318952.html) 2 (http://www.theeldergeek.com/manage_internet_explorer_error_reporting.htm)
Some time ago (do not know when) but that is blocked connection to the network. When I type in the www.slashdot.org bottom of IE window, I see scrolling:
searching autosearch.msn.com
connecting www.slashdot.org.com
connecting www.slashdot.org.net
connecting than www.slashdot.org.org

and it gives me a pop-up “Internet Explorer could not find the search page” I have my dns 0.

properties checked under my tcpip and everything is normal, its not set to add to everything.
Ive press the “restore to default” button under the Advanced tab in the options
Ive even download the installer IE6, IE removed and reinstalled . nothing

It is still unable to connect to FTP sites (

I m crazy about this, Mozilla, Trillian, all CuteFTP connection with a problem. Besides IE, my SETI client and a previously working java application I wrote for connection to an site all connection can not now. But Im most concerned about is the moment.

If anyone has any idea I would appreciate your help

THANKS

Best Answer: Check your SSID and security key for the connection. If your laptop has trashed these you wont be able to connect. Get the info off your girlfriends computer and redo it all on yours.

I am using windows 2000 and IE is not configured to conect to any proxy at all.

I've also checked my DNS info under my tcpip settings and that is all default (nothing) so that's not appending anything to it either.
I've downloaded the IE6 setup files and have uninstalled/reinstalled IE…….still no dice.

I'm thinking of downgrading to 5.5 or maybe even 4 to see if that helps.
I don't have any P2P stuff on here so I doubt it's spyware but I've seen some pretty sneaky spyware. Adaware picks up nothing and a breif search of the registry looks ok (as in nothing that shouldn't be there)

If anyone has ideas please toss them out there, i'm all ears (just FYI, format has already been mentioned…but i'd like to avoid that;))

Most DX 482/2 systems will take at least 16 MB RAM. Even back then, the manufacturers were skimping based on what the MS minimum specs were.

Best Answer: Please restate your question in a more detailed, descriptive manner. Your question neither makes sense nor is a proper question. If I interpreted it correctly, then Mozilla Firefox does not connect to the internet, while IE does. This is simply not possible if you are using a regular internet connection like Comcast, Time Warner, or Verizon provide you. If you are using other software or unorthodox ways to connect, then you may be stuck in IE.

Q: I have a d-link wireless router I am trying to disable, so I can host games on warcraft, I had done it b4 but I Reformated and I have more to do, I know that some type 2 IP address Internet Explorer, but i dont know what. can ne one help me?

Best Answer: Does your cousin's computer work with your router? That would be a simple test to see if it's your computer, or something blocking your game in the router.

Most common causes would be some blocked list in the router, your firewall is blocking something, or the game is not configured right…. Since all other games seem to work ok, then your general paths to the Internet are ok as well. That points back to your firewalls as most likely source of the problem.

Re:Just follow this guide (http://support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=1332).

DMZ is not a good idea.

Re:ok that ip worked, i know i have 2 go 2 dmz setting what should i change it to?

Re:You'll also probably need to dig out the user's manual (or search online) for the default admin user name and password. It should also contain the IP address you need (as someone already mentioned).

Re:For security reasons I would just open the specific ports you need for warcraft rather than putting the router in DMZ mode.

Anyway, try 192.168.0.1 (http://192.168.0.1) to access the router. If you haven't setup a pass type "admin" for the username and leave the password blank.

Edit: And as Zeph pointed out, if you only formatted your computer you shouldn't need to re-configure the router. It's settings are saved on its own hardware.

Re:Reformatting your computer shouldn't change the settings on your router, but in any case, I believe the IP for this would be 192.168.0.1, type that in Internet Explorer and go from there.

Re:Why would reformatting your PC affect the firewal settings on your wireless router?
