Re:Originally posted by: guy
u did get huge bang for the buck… and since your on a budget you did just as well IMO as if you'd gone PCIe.
ive been wanting to upgrade for a year now, but hate the catch 22 of either a) PCIe support, or b) superior, faster A64 processor

but you did really well anyway, at least you got S939. if you'd gotten 754 and no PCIe I'd be kicking myself. i dont care how big of a bargain those might be, (or were).. no way would i limit myself to the "celeron" processor of the future. AGP is one thing.. being on 754 is unacceptable for me.

Then I'll start kicking myself after lunch, 'cause the A64 2800+ is socket 754.

Anyway I think you are right with your advice:

- Buy a better AGP based card as soon as one is available in my price-range, might be a 6600 non-gt, 6600 GT or a 9800 PRO (if they become available again and go down to the $140 range), and then stick to my system until it's time to replace it as a whole.

- Or I could try to sell the mobo-cpu-videocard combo as soon as I can (when it's still worth something) and go to either AMD-939-PCIe(When it's available), or INTEL-775-PCIe.

The point is that I think that it was a mistake to buy an AMD-754-NF3-AGP based at this moment, first because of the socket, and second because of the video interface. As much as we love our AMD-based systems, I believe that anyone who ask for advice in the forums at this moment about what system to buy, should be at least advised to check the INTEL-775-PCIe offers, that way they'll have a more certain upgrade path, not to mention that they can get right now a well-performing budget PCIe video card in the $130 range (6600 non-gt).

When PCIe it's widely available for AMD mobos, then probably the best advice would be to go that way.

I just hope that we are right in that the current shortage of AGP video cards is due to the Xmas season and the fact that most of us still have AGP based mobos, we'll know for sure early in 2005.

BTW… does ATI announced what was their future strategy for AGP ?, at this moment beside the older 9XXX models, ATI doesn't have entry-level and mid-range AGP based cards, only PCIe.

Re:I think AGP is still going to be around until 2006 at least. More ppl own AGP based systems than PCIe based systems right now. Not everyone wants to buy a PCIe based motherboard. A lot of people have decent computers and who will just want to upgrade their videocard. I doubt everyone who bought A64 754 or any of the current socket 939 boards and everyone who has XP3200+ and P4 3.4ghz on 478 platforms will be too happy if videocard companies stopped producing AGP-based videocards starting with this generation of videocards. Videocard companies know that and that's why they'll try to slowly fade AGP out and it wont happen within next 12 months.

Even today neither ATi nor Nvidia have PCI E videocards on the high-end for the market. They are hard to find and they are overpriced. Also neither company has sub-$100 PCIe based videocards either. PCI Express is not anywhere near mainstream. After A64 introduced Nforce 4, it will still take a while before more than 50% of users will own PCIe capable videocards. Only after that it would be feasible to start reducing production of AGP videocards.

Re:So is this the end for the AGP bus

AGP is not a bus.
——————–
NV and ATI will produce PCIe->AGP bridge chips until their AIB partners stop buying them. The AIBs will produce cards using the $5 bridge as long as people continue buying them.

Re:u did get huge bang for the buck… and since your on a budget you did just as well IMO as if you'd gone PCIe.
ive been wanting to upgrade for a year now, but hate the catch 22 of either a) PCIe support, or b) superior, faster A64 processor

but you did really well anyway, at least you got S939. if you'd gotten 754 and no PCIe I'd be kicking myself. i dont care how big of a bargain those might be, (or were).. no way would i limit myself to the "celeron" processor of the future.
you did pick a good time in a way to be stuck on AGP.. it is the beginning of the transition after all. so you should be good video card wise for a year at least.

though i think ppl are going to be surprised how fast this transition will go once the NF4 for AMD and intel are on the streets… it'll be fast. thats why i'd suggest buying a uber-fast card like the 6800 and enjoying your system until the whole thing needs replaced. otherwise the frustration of not being able to upgrade to the next gen cards, or paying more for the AGP version would suck.

personally i feel PCIe will takeoff like wildfire once the enthusiasts get boards that support it.

also, you have s939… all you need to do if you want PCIe is replace the motherboard… not a huge expense.

I'd consider one of two stategies.

1. Stick with your current system and enjoy until PCIe A64 boards come out.. move your processor and everything over but your 9600 Pro (which isnt the greatest anyway)
2. Or buy a top of the line AGP card, replacing everything all at once when you need

Since you didnt purchase a expensive AGP card yet… I'd do #1.. get your PCIe support and pickup a nice 6600GT.. it will be a great upgrade from a 9600 pro.. and you will also have SLI potential if you get a dual board. It will be around $180-200 for the board… and $180 for the PCIe 6600GT but I think then you have a killer system consisting of the three main things you need for longevity these days… S939, PCIe and SLI.

Sell the 9600 Pro on ebay to some sucker, or put it in your moms/dads/bro's/sisters rig.. i sold my 9800 pro on ebay to someone in canada for more than i payed.

Re:[quote]
Originally posted by: guy
I wouldnt buy a non PCIe system at this time. Most wouldnt agree with me, but if I had to upgrade this minute it'd be a prescott PCIe system. You would prob be able to add a dual core chip next year on a prescott board, they should be a little better… in the meantime you wouldnt have a "slow" system… which is blown a bit out of proportion by some (the difference between A64/P4). Its by no means a "horrible" choice, and should allow for the much better performing dual cores in '05 to be used.
And you'll have a PCIe card that can be migrated to any system at that time.

IMO a system with PCIe (even a P4) is equal to a A64 (without PCIe) system (all things considered; performance/upgradability). I just wouldnt want to be stuck on the AGP platform. It really depends how you use your hardware. If I were in your situation i'd run out and buy a 6800Ultra or GT. I do not upgrade very often. If you do upgrade alot, then dont fret much.
q]

You're right, maybe I focused too much in the Anand's AMD guides and didn't pay much attention to the Intel guides, if I've read a bit more I should've noticed that the parts that I was buying didn't have much of an upgrade path. I should've noticed that buying a non PCIe system was a bad decision at this point.

The 68XX series is a bit too expensive a this moment for me, it would be great to have a $130-$150 range AGP video card that was really worth it, like the 6600($120), which according to the reviews can get around 5100 3DMarks2003, which is a lot better than the max of 3700 3DMarkss2003 you can have with a 9600 Pro/XT in the same price range.

Re:Originally posted by: guy
The reason the cards you listed are drying up:

9800 Pro's = Only All In wonder
9700 Pro = Only All In wonder
9600 XT's = A few brands left
9600 Pro's = A few brands left

…is because they are last year's cards (the 9700Pro is from the year before even), not because they are AGP. ATi replaced these with new ones this year. Some of the new ones are PCIe and others are AGP. AGP will be around for a couple of years to come, but they just won't be the top of the line cards anymore. The same way it is now with PCI video cards.

Which are the new ones?. I think the X800 line is the only one of the newer ATI's that are available for AGP, but that line is for the high end market. What about replacement for the mid-range mainstream market ?.

Re:AGP was released in 1997 yet regular PCI video cards are still being made. I wonder if they will still make new AGP cards in 7 years.

Re:I just bought a new AGP 6800 and an Asus A8V. I've got no regrets about waiting for PCIe. I had planned to wait until PCIe, but I got such a great deal on the video card, I couldn't turn it down. AMD 939 PCIe motherboards aren't out, and when they do come out, they may be buggy, expensive, etc. I'd rather have something polished and proven rather than being the first kid on my block to have the new toy.

If I decide to upgrade my motherboard while I still have this video card and AGP isn't available, I'll probably just sell my video card and buy a new one. It's not the end of the world.

Re:While I might buy a PCI-e mobo if I was in the market for one today, I don't think AGP will disappear THAT fast. There is a HUGE base of AGP users out there who will be seeking upgrades over the next year or so. Somebody (manufacturer) will be happy to take their money in return for a new AGP gfx card. But it will be interesting to see this pans out.

Yes, I think the fact that are relatively few PCI-e mobo's and it's XMAS time has something to do with the lack of supply on the AGP side.

Looks like your using a 9600p. You've still got plenty of upgrade "room" left. 6800GT>6600GT>9800p>9600p.

Re:regardless if it is obsolete or not, most MFR's are always putting the latest feature set on their boards, so AGP will start to cycle out just because of the way the consumer market works. when new PCI-E chipsets gain mass popularity (DELL/HP/SONY >> in stores), it is just natural that AGP support will be less and less common. the product life will come to an end whether it is ready to or not.

AGP aside, this is just the world that we live in– after all, agressive product cycles can fuel innovation.

Re:I wouldnt buy a non PCIe system at this time. Most wouldnt agree with me, but if I had to upgrade this minute it'd be a prescott PCIe system.
I personally keep graphics cards for a long time, even if replaced becuase they are so expensive. A year or two down the road a AGP card will be completely useless for any system being sold on the market. Cant pop it into your wife/girlfriend/mothers computer or your spare system.
If that wasnt enough, SLI is the icing on the cake to the PCIe arguement.. get a 6600gt/6800gt today and buy another down the road and upgrade to a SLI NF4 (intel or AMD).

PCIe is coming to AMD mobos this month (IIRC) at very least in the form of SLI NF4s. Single slots in Jan. SLI P4 boards coming in '05 (should be).

IMO a system with PCIe (even a P4) is equal to a A64 (without PCIe) system (all things considered; performance/upgradability). I just wouldnt want to be stuck on the AGP platform.
For someone like myself who keeps an old system around or two, and my current A64 PCIe will be around for many years as a backup.. I want as many parts to interchange with whatever replaces my PCIe A64 system. And PCIe will prob still be the standard for many years.

The cheap prices of the 6600GT PCIe vs AGP bothers me as well.

I'm planning on a SLI NF4, A64 3000+ and 6600GT at the end of this month with a bit of luck. If not, this old GF4 4200 128MB is plenty fast.

probably a different revision. possibly the more expensive one has the 16 pipes already unlocked? even so that's too much to pay for that card.

Re:IIRC, the most recent x800gto's from sapphire are unlocked from the factory so have 16 pipes by default…that could just be for the pci-e ones, plus this is open box so i dunno, and if it's not r480 (might not be), it won't OC well…but that x1650 has a low memory clock and only a 128 bit bandwidth so would have very poor memory bandwidth relative to that x800. i would just look around in the fs/ft forum for a better deal on like a high end gf6 or x800 part, you could probably get a better one there.

Re:The gto is slightly faster, but keep in mind that you're buying an open box version of a card than was known to be a modder's toy for unlocking and overclocking. So there's slightly more risk than usual of you getting a damaged card.

Re:Comparison (http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_2007.html?modelx=33&model1=737&model2=744&chart=275)

Don't look at the fact that the top card is an X1600 pro, it has the exact same specs as the X1650 u listed.

Re:The X800 will be slightly faster, I believe, although it omits functionality for Pixel Shaders of the SM 2 level. It also has old drivers available for Window9x, which the X1xxx's do not. I would say that the convenience of skipping the mail-in effort and waiting for it to be honored is worth an extra consideration.

Enlighten please me.

Re:Don't go by the pics. Evga part number is different, therefor SOMETHING is different. In the past, eVga has had different options on the same card to include different clock speeds and at times VIVO as the only differences.

Albatron did this with their 59XX series. There was no physical differences in the full 5900 series (not XT) other than speeds and amount of RAM on the VIVO cards. The 5900 Turbo with VIVO flashed to the 5950 with VIVO without a hitch. They even could overclock after the flash and run solid at 505/980 most of the time on stock cooling. Not bad from 420/780 stock in most cases.

Re:Originally posted by: guy
one had HDTV adaptor the other doesnt!

According to the pics, they both come with the adaptor.

Besides, I guarantee that the actual cards are the exact same, only difference is the model #. This question has been asked numerous times.

Re:Originally posted by: guy
The more expensive is the model that came with the free SLI MB. That deal is dead (at least for now). They are the exact same card, just a different model # to signify the MB deal and increased cost.

There is no difference on the charts.

Whether or not there is a difference in a real situation is a different issue.

I would go with the cheaper one.

Re:The bundle?!? The cheaper one seems to have VIVO, so I wouldn't hesitate on picking that one… especially not 'cause you can shave off another $ 20, which makes it just 9 bucks more expensive than an eVGA 6800GT… Hmm, tough choice I'd say…

Stock Clockspeed is the difference.
They appear to have the same pre-overclocked clocks…

Re:one had HDTV adaptor the other doesnt!

Anyone knowledgeable enough to respond to this?

P.S. With so cheap DDR2 ram, and more CPU price cuts on the horizon, Im probably going to suggest that he sell what he has and still go DDR2. Although I still would like to know the truth about the question rebadge.

Re:Originally posted by: guy
It supports X2 939 chips, thus I figure it will work with an opty? Maybe? Hehe.
No, not maybe. Any board that will support any X2 will support a dual-core Opty. They're exactly the same processor, one of them is just made a bit better.

Re:It supports X2 939 chips, thus I figure it will work with an opty? Maybe? Hehe.

Re:Originally posted by: guy
I have a Jetway A210GDMS pro, not the best of overclockers, the lan craps out around 250 and IDE channels around 240.

Btw, it took them 3 years to do that study, lol.
Eww, Jetway is about as bad as ECS, when it comes to overclocking. You should consider this Opteron 175 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103584), which has an 11x multiplier, or even this 180 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103582), which has a 12x multi. I mean, 11×236= 2.6 Ghz, and 12×240= 2.8 Ghz. It would be much, much easier than changing motherboards. Of course, don't buy any dual-core chip, until you find out whether your particular motherboard has a BIOS that will support it.

Re:Originally posted by: guy
[quote]
Originally posted by: guy
I am considering this same chip, do you like it? I will only be able to achieve 10×240 though.
Then you shouldn't buy an Intel Socket 478 chip, then. When overclocking Athlon 64's, it doesn't work that way. Even if you only have PC2100 RAM, you'd be able to clock an Opteron 170 to a minimum of 2.75 Ghz, assuming the chip itself will overclock that far. If you have PC2700, then you'd be able to go past 3 Ghz, before you started overclocking the RAM. BTW, I'm amazed, but I had no problem at all reading your sig!!

Re:I'm pretty sure they use at least some of the low-end opty steppings and rebadge them as X2's. I had a 939 X2 3800 that was CCBWE, and in my research I'd found that it's a low-end opty stepping. That's probably the case here. So it's not that people who buy opty's with that stepping are getting 'ripped off' necessarily, I mean the chips were designed to be Opterons, but they're probably a bit lackluster and thus some of them are sold as X2's (mine oc'ed to ~2.5GHz with like 1.45V IIRC).

Re:Originally posted by: guy
I have an LCB9E and it runs better than a Toledo. I doubt the validity of that tale. If someone were purchasing Opterons for server duty and got Toledos, could not a lawsuit be in order?

No, because what you are supposedly paying for on a server-class chip like that is a higher level of testing and validation to better make sure there isn't some hidden flaw in the chip that makes it crap out after a few months or throw math errors every once in a while. The actual design of the chip is somewhat irrelevant.

Re:Originally posted by: guy
That's a mighty impressive overclock BTW…especially the RAM. Is that at 1T?
Yeah, that's at 1T. It's really not all that impressive, though, since I'm using this RAM. (http://www.{$MySite}/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2560&p=7) Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to get it to run 1:1, with my board. So far, it's topping out just past 260 Mhz, and I'm happy enough with that.

edit: Note, though, that it requires .025v more vcore to be stable at that speed, which isn't too bad at all, for an LCB9E.

Re:Originally posted by: guy

Originally posted by: guy
I don't think the LCB9E are just rebadged X2's. Hell, even if it is, I'm happy with mine running at 2.8Ghz @ 1.35v (311×9). Based on what I've seen so far, the memory controller seems in line with other Opterons.
Getting More Customers/Clients
Re:Biggest difference, as has been the trend in recent years, would be Memory speed and quality of RAMDAC (2D quality). Its pretty clear the cores are identical (as they seem to be identical to the 9500/pros). With a BIOS flash, you should be able to get the core to at least Pro specs, but the RAM probably won't be able to handle Pro speeds.

Chiz

Re:saphire, crucial, hercules, ati and most of the others (not powercolor) are all the same

only difference is appearance and some cooling variations…

you'll be fine with all of them

hercules is supposed to be the best one for overclocking followed by the ati and saphire

i have the ati and love it

Re:Actually I think the saphhire card is the fastest around. They all are pretty good!

Re:I know nothing about the Crucial card but the Sapphire, which I have, is basically the same thing. When you start dropping in price, you start loosing game bundles, fancy cooling, etc.,.. You need to decide what you want with the card and go from there. Make sure that they advertise the card's core and memory speed. PowerColor is the only one I know so far that pushed an oem, supposed "pro", card on the market that is not clocked to pro speeds. After I got this card and returned it because it wasn't a real pro, I checked sites that were selling it and not all of them were upfront about the core/mem speed. They'll lead you to believe that it is an authentic "pro" card.

Re:Ok, but I see other cards like the Sapphire and Crucial which are cheaper then ATI's offering. Are they the same thing?

Re:Be very careful with the PowerColor…… they have been selling a card with a pro ID that is basically clocked at 298/264. Some places are up front about the core speed, but not all places. If you want a real pro card, I would call this place and get them to tell you what this card is clocked at.

That takes off over $300 with no significant substitutions except non-SLi in place of SLi.

Personally, if you're primarily going to be gaming, I'd also drop the hard drive and processor down, then get a 7800GT instead. You will generally get more benefit from a high end video card than a high end processor. Plus the 3000+ or 3200+ can easily reach in the 2400-2700 MHz range, which is perfectly adequate for all gaming.

Re:Agreed to the post above… I did mention in my post that I won't get the card which subtracts $129 More than 5 seconds please.

Re:i just loooked at your first posting for approx 5 secs….and at the FIRST line i was "ehrm….$135 case…NOT expensive….but still"

And then i almost fell over when i saw that you want to pay over $200 just for the mobo alone…

I'd REALLY recommend a pricegrabber.com and/or froogle.com search and i am sure you might be able to save a BIG chunk of money

raptor: is just my opinion…its the fastest sata drive, yes…but 74gb ???? My videos alone are 74 gb…..and for the second best, very fast SATA drive i really highly, highly recommend a Hitachi 7k250 160gb Sata, 160Gb and is $88

Also..San diego 3700 ???? I got a winchester 3500…..and i think a 3500 or 3200 is a much better deal especially if you overclock

then.,..you NEED 2 GB of mem ?

Look…..you list a kickass system here with the most expensive motherboard, the most expensive HD and the 2GB of ram..and THEN ask how to save money ? The point is that you might be able to build a system like that for half the cost if you really think what you need and if you start up…eg. with 1GB of ram and the ultra-d motherboard (instead of SLI-DR) etc…a cheaper case

And yeahg..sorry…the Create x-fi for $129…thats the biggest joke i've ever read….you pay $129 for a soundcard because you believe that NOW FINALLY creative released a soundcard which MAKES ANY TONE sound 10000x better than before..and its such an incredible comparison to the, say, audigy…

Thr truth is that you might have the HARDEST time ever to hear a difference between this $130 card and say an Audigy 2, i got a Audigy 2 Value OEM and i paid $42 shipped for it

Creative uses to release "incredible" new souncards each year or so….but if you really care about 2db more s/n ratio, gold plated connectors and firewire (which you already have on the board etc)….and a totally useless (?) software bundle etc…then please pay them Otherwise an Audigy2, even A 2 OEM or even value might be plenty.

Besides, you also have onbaord sound (pretty good one actually), you wouldnt even NEED a soundcard….but then i have one for myself since it gives more flexibility in case of hardware conflicts.

You could save a LOT of money

Re:You can read all about your various motherboard options here:

http://www.{$MySite}/mb/

Re:Nothing. In fact, use a minifridge as your PCs case.

Re:If I don't go with an SLI motherboard? What would you reccomend? I would like to overclock, although reliability is VERY important.

Also, a 480W power supply is good enough to handle a nextgen VC with all of my components?

Re:Yeah just go with cheaper components, you pretty much picked out the highest end stuff imaginable. If you want to cut costs just go with components that will give you 80-90% of performance the stuff you picked will give you yet costs 40-50% less.

Re:Why spend money on a vid card that is more than 250 bucks? Technology changes so fast I dont see the point. I say find a decent midrange card for 200 or 220 bucks, skip hte sound card, most MB's have pretty decent integrated sound and go from there.

Re:Originally posted by: djmihow
I don't see the point on paying 300 dollars for XMS ram when you can get Regular Corsair Ram for 200 bucks 2 x 1Gb.

Aren't those the ones with leds on them?

I will add that you can save more by dropping the case. I think the lianli is worth it given the quality of the case and the removable mobo tray that makes installing so much easier. The chieftec stuff is generally good though or chenming (antec clones of old).

Oh and Creative damn well better put some decent digital out ports on that new X-fi crap. $120 for a retail audigy and not even a pcm coax jack for digital out is same ol creative bs that went with my old live card.

/rant

Re:I don't see the point on paying 300 dollars for XMS ram when you can get Regular Corsair Ram for 200 bucks 2 x 1Gb.

Re:Dump the XMS and get some regular ram

Re:nVidia's countdown on their website ends tonight at midnight. You might want to wait a day before dropping ~400 on a 6800GT. We could be seeing 7800GTs for that tomorrow.

Re:How to know what's overkill?

You need to tell us what you'll be doing with it

guy

Re:Get your CPU at Monarch.

Case: Antec P-160 is cheaper

PSU: Get a Seasonic deal at EWiz. I warn you that there are some incompatibilities sometimes w/ Seasonics and DFIs. I know a friend who couldn't boot. I however have no problems yet w/ my Seasonic 600 + DFI. I know lots of ppl have been fine, but there are some people w/ problems.

Edit: Deleted the video suggestion. I would go with x800XL. I was mistaken… the cheap 6800GT was an AGP ver. Or you can wait for a 7800GT like I'm waiting for ^^

Re:Find value-ram for that system and put that extra money toward the OEM version of the 7800 GTX.

Find a cheaper case… Plenty of cool looking cases out there. But that is your choice. Get a different motherboard. I am using the Asus A8N-E and it works like a charm. I am sure you can find even cheaper.

Go with the 36G Raptor and install only the OS and the items you use on a daily basis. Get another drive for data storage Music, DVD, etc…

Drop down to the 3500+ Venice, You going to notice 3% performance? I doubt it.

Most of all, let me stress that if you are going to spend 350 on a 6800 GT, please just spend the extra 120 and get a 7800 GTX…

Re:The case you picked is great, but you could go even cheaper. There are some nice cases around $50 such as the Cooler Master Centurion 5 and Cheiftec Dragon.

As for the PSU get a Fortron AX500-A. Get a DFI NF4 Ultra-D. Get a X800XL from Monarch for $250. Get a 3000+. Get crucial value RAM. Seagate 7200.8 drive.

Re:reduce hard drive, and psu.

Re:Id say go with the 36 gig raptor, its cheaper and all you really need it for is running the OS and program files… all your media stuff can go a cheaper second hard drive. You can get a 250 gig seagate IDE drive at tiger direct for $85 after rebate… with a 5 year warranty!!

Dont buy a video card for a few weeks until the prices drop when ATI brings out its new line and NVIDIA cuts its prices.

Just buy one gig of value ram now and more later. If you are planning to overclock then maybe you should get some better ram but if not then just get value ram for around $85.

If you are going to overclock get a 3200+… it can go a long way

If you really want to cut costs get a cheaper case too

And geezus that motherboard is expensive… unless you are planning on buying another video card for SLI somewhere down the road just get a regular one for around $120. I think SLI is way overrated anyway. Most programs dont support it and how much of a difference do you think you are actually going to see? I suppose if you are WAY WAY WAY into FPS games then it is good but oh well whatever floats your boat.

Be sure and buy from a retailer that doesnt charge tax and does free shipping.
www.pricegrabber.com will let you put in your zip code and will factor those in for you. Newegg is a terrible site to buy from if you have to pay tax. I like www.monarchcomputer.com. Tax and shipping will add hundreds of dollars onto the final price. That power supply might be overkill too… I would go with something like this (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=198246&_LOC=US).

What are you going to use all those top of the line components for? Invest in something that is easy to upgrade as parts become cheaper. Id get on board sound and use that for a year until X-Fi prices drop.

Think of all the other things you can do with money you dont spend on a computer. Going outside to play soccer is free you know. So is making love to a woman. Go cheap on something with high future proofing when your buying a computer. New stuff comes out every day… your brand new top of the line parts today wont be brand new or top of the line in a few months… just keep that in mind.

Re:I second the dropping of the SLI mobo. Like guy said, about $100 bucks.

If you plan on overclocking, the lower end A64 CPU (3000+ Venice) overclocks very easily to very high speeds. You could shave off about $150 there.

The raptor could also be switched out for a SATA drive. Could get about $80 back if you pick a 120GB or 160GB drive.

That's $330 off the price.

Re:Old Part – New Part

SLI-DR – Ultra-D
Raptor – Seagate 200GB
Corsair XMS – OCZ Platinum
TPII-550 – TPII-480

Re:Ur wasting ur money on expensive mobo, ram and psu/case. Why don't you spend it on a decent vidcard instead. And carry over the optical drive from your current system to save money.

Re:Well, do you really need SLI? You can easily drop 70-110 bucks if you go with a cheaper mobo. If you really need SLI, go with MSI's Neo4 or whatever. Thats $120 or so with SLI and creative live! sound chip onboard. The raptor, while fast is about $2.2/GB in cost. Buy a 160gb sata drive for $85 tops, get twice the space for half the cash and 3/4 drive speed. Unless you really really really need the extra seconds shaved off loading times. You can always upgrade to it later to run games/os off of it. I've always thought that the raptors while nice, are really a scsi alternative for servers and an extravagance for anyone else. If you can't afford it, it really makes no sense to get it IMHO. The ram seems pricey but I'm guessing you want to overclock?

Re:$100 – mobo
$150 – CPU
$200 – 6800 GPU (unlock features)
$200 – Corsair Value @ 2GB
$160 – 250GB w/NCQ + 16mb cache
$100 – Audigy 2 ZS
$100 – DVD-RW16x + DVD-RW16x

~1,000 USD

I've purchased many BenQ LCDs at work, and never had any issues with any of them. Not one dead pixel, ever. This is the one I'd buy, if I was buying now.
I'm not positive on this, as I don't follow it too closely, but I'm sure someone else will be able to comment on it. If it's true, he'd have to wait a while before the prices on the 2005FPW came back down again.

I wanted one of those for myself, and now I can't seem to find a hot deal on them anywhere
