Q: I recently bought a new heatsink for my cpu 1gig P3 and wanted the old Intel heatsink to the CPU when I bought replacement. However, when I tried to remove the old heatsink on the CPU, it would not close properly. Me think the melted thermal pad on the CPU core. Is there anyway to remove the old heatsink? Would you do it in the safest possible way, for still trying to earn enough for an Athlon XP. Thanks for any suggestions.

Q: Ok I got my heat sink and fan today and tomorrow I get my CPU and motherboard. I read the instructions on the Arctic Silver 2 official site, and says that before the heatsink you need some Arctic silver over the first part of the heatsink in contact with the CPU to fill the microscopic valleys. Then wipe. Is this really necessary? My heatsink does not even come with a thermal pad, so I need to do this?

Q: I heard that isopropyl rubbing alcohol use for the thermal stuff that came on the floor of my heatsink removal. I will be applying Arctic Silver 5, but before I do I would like to know how much I have to clean the heatsink? I have removed nearly all traces of the heat things, but if I keep at certain angles, I see the outlines of where the thermal pad was. means that there are traces of thermal stuff left and I have to clean?
if not how much tolerance there is for the old thermal stuff

Q: Is it necessary to use thermal compound or grease or a thermal pad when attaching a heatsink / fan on a socket A 800 TBIRD?
I have none of that, just wondering if it is needed or if its just something extra?
