Q: Hey everybody. I want to test the motherboard in a computer Im in the process of building.
The thing is, I do not even have a CPU. Is there a way I can test it without a CPU?
Thats all for now.
Best Answer: Sorry, but I think your friend may be mistaken, I've never attempted to test a CPU with any type electronic equipment, it would just be to over the top so to speak. I would say that the type equipment that you would need we be of clean room quality such as that used by techs at AMD and Intel.
Using some of this equipment.. well it may just be easier to just buy a new CPU rather than worry about testing this one unless its just personal curiosity, if you do have a method please let me know, I'd be interested to know
Re:I do know someone who repairs PCs out of his home. Maybe I could ask him if he's got a celery or cumine laying around…
Re:Got any friends??? If u have u mayby can burrow a CPU from one of them if they have a CPU supported by your motherboard.
Re:probably cause there is no cpu, not even the bios can load without a few cpu cycles
Re:Well, I just plugged it in and flipped the power switch, and pushed the power button. Nothing happened. At all. Absolutely not a single thing happening. Zero activity. Does this mean the mobo is dead, or possibly another problem?
Re:In this case, there is NO WAY you can test the motherboard is working or not without a CPU.
Re:My motherboard does not have any beep codes for no CPU, as far as I can tell from the manual. I guess I'll give it a try later today. The reason I want to do this is because I don't want to buy more stuff if the motherboard I'm building around is dead.
Re:Depends on the motherboard you are using, usually you wouldn't get ANY beeps at all without the CPU. The best you can do is to make sure the power supply works.. heh
Re:Test as in…?
You mean make sure it works?
The best you could do, was just power it on.. you should get 4 long beeps from the internal speaker (I think it's 4), which basically says there is no CPU installed.
