Q: I want something that will backup my server in the office every day and make a new zip for each day, something like that?
space is no problem.
Best Answer: Hard drives are cheap these days!
I added a second internal HD and I use the free software, Karen's Replicator, to automatically backup any changes to my entire Documents and Settings folder daily.
The first back-up take some time but the daily, (changes only) backup takes just a couple minutes and is done in the background so you don't even notice it.
Karen and her Replicator can be found here:
Re:NTI Backup. Other than ghost it is the only one that has actually worked when I was desperate.
(Unlike novastor. Novastor app errored on the first recovery file and truncated it from 500mb to about 30kb. Poof. Entire backup gone. Gigs of useless files cause the first one was destroyed.)
Re:The one they give to people here at work is NTI Backup. Not sure on the cost but it does incrementals, fulls, etc for backing up.

Looks like it's only $60 or so for the downloadable install
Re:ntbackup… its free.. and universal among windows computers
Re:I've read that you don't want to make an entire image of your drive… I just wanted to let you guys know that Ghost won't work for Servers. He'd have to step up to LiveState for Server OS machines… but it is an excellent program from what I've seen of it over the last few months. Much better than Dantz Retrospect or the built in Windows Backup program.
Re:If you just want to back up selected files, then then try Cobian Backup. Its free, and very nice, and will puts the items you want into a zip file.

Its a very nice program, and you can schedule backup times, or do them manually.

What about some type of imaging software like Acronis True Image?
acronis 'now' doesn't just make a image like ghost, but is a file based backup software as well. you can do both. i just 'dl' a copy tonight.

space is not an issue.
An external hard drive that is USB based would work. I think Maxtor drives even come with backup software to automate the process.
Ghost is the most popular software solution. It will make an image and do incremental backups on another PC on the same netwrok. Requires 2 PCs to do it that way. Anyways, read about ghost if you want a low cost solution. You should be able to backup to DVD-R with it among other things.

i agree, if space is not an issue, make a complete drive image every day.
