Q: With remote desktop is not as good as it is that it would be great if I could use it, while someone using the PC locally. There is a patch for Windows XP with this beta terminal server files, but I know its not legal. I think they need so that you can license one another (perhaps cheaper purchase) that enables remote use while someone on the machine on site.

Not sure if it is consider "bad" but if you search google you can make XP Pro have 2 users log on at the same time… The technique is sort-of like modifying one of the system files to use non-first party themes..
It was mentioned earlier in this thread, and violates the EULA.

Re:I remote from my work box which is fully licensed.
I tried out the XP patch before and there wasn't a problem. My son would play Oblivion while I did what I had to do. No problems at all.
I would try Linux but I work with AutoCAD daily.
Interesting that the game doesn't affect it, I'm not saying that it should but I wouldn't have thought MS to get that right on the first try. =)
And the Linux license comment was just because you still need a valid client license, so while work paid for yours others won't have that. And I really doubt most home users care because if they've got 2 machines there's very few reason to remote into the other one instead of just working locally on the current one.

As much as I'd like to see it I don't think it'll happen anytime soon.

Re:You can patch WinXP SP2 for two concurrent users (one at the console and one via RDP). Basically you replace the RDP with one of the SP2 beta versions (which had such functionality). But from the way MS removed the function, it's obvious that they don't want this. There's no equivalent of this for Vista. So it's a pretty sure thing that MS doesn't like it.

With remote desktop being as good as it is it would be great if I could use it while someone is using the PC locally. There is a "patch" for XP that allows this using beta terminal server files but I know thats not legal. I think they should make it so you can purchase another license (cheaper maybe) that allows remote use while someone is on the machine locally.
You'd still need a total of 3 licenses then because the remote box still has to be licensed, unless you go with a Linux box + rdesktop or something. And what happens if the person on the console starts up a game while the other person is remoted in?

Re:I think they want you to buy Terminal Server if you want that kind of functionality.
That said, I think it would be nice if they supported, say, one remote desktop out of the box on the 'client' OS, with an option to buy licenses for more… most desktops these days have more than enough horsepower to run a few remote sessions concurrently.
