Upgrade to XP Pro from XP Home [dell logo] [pc boots]

Q: Hello, my

I to upgrade XP Home to XP Pro – is there anything special I should do? Is it fine if I install the private copying – will be their double-created files? Also, my programs work normally or will I need to reinstall them? There I bought a Dell, the Dell-related files missing – for example, when my PC starts up, I see the , will be the same if I upgrade to Pro?

Thanks in advance

Best Answer: There is a hidden file on the root of C called boot.ini you can edit this file and remove the reference to the XP Pro

You can also change the default to home (and the time limit) in the System Panel (right click my computer, click properties) in the advanced tab, click startup button.

Re:I just upgraded 2 days ago from xp home to xp pro – very smooth – basically I selected not the upgrade option, but the one where it would delete xp home…and then install xp pro – a clean installation. All I had to do after that, was reinstall the drivers for most of the hardware, which was conveniently on a Dell Drivers CD

Re:If it is an award bios then it is fairly easy to change. AMI bios are a little more tricky. Here (http://www.thetechguide.com/howto/bioslogo.html) is a link to an article on changing your logo with an award bios.

Re: is in the bios

That's interesting, no wonder I can't get rid of it from my laptop :o

Re:I've never done it, but it will probably ask you if you wish to upgrade. It should just copy over the files that you don't have. The is in the bios, it doesn't have anything to do with your OS.
