Q: I have a Dell PowerEdge 1400SC server on W2K server [not ADV. Ver.] Runs SP4.
Server specs:
P3-1GHz, 512MB Ram.
Here s deal.
Upgrade SCSI drives from Seagate 320 [36GB]. Mirrored old C: to D: [New SCSI 1]. Went ok.
Shutdown server, delete old C:, New jumpers as SCSI device 0 [zero] added another identical Seagate drive [New SCSI 2] jumpered as Device 1.
Problem:
Wont boat. SCSI disks detects all utilities, but not beyond that.
Possible solution
The ARC path to the old SCSI drive as the primary is: 977 503 977 503 [boot loader] =
timeout 5
default = multi (0) disk (0) rdisk ( 0) partition (2) WINNT
[operating systems]
multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) WINNT = “Microsoft Windows 2000 Server” / fastdetect
Notice The partition is set to 2 [two]. The old SCSI disk, another partition on the [EISA], a value of about 36 MB. Dell has this partition, I believe.
I this setting a change, I think the bootloader is looking for a partition that does not exist on the new SCSI disk, in this case partition 2.
PLEASE HELP.
Re:And the solution was??
I hate it when people don't provide details for others that may follow with the same problem!!
It isn't that difficult…
Re:I'm betting MS had you use a boot diskette for starters eh?
Keep in mind you can have BOTH arc paths in your boot.ini (in case you were brain farting)
Re:Why would it be replaced on both drives? If it's mirrored it's already the same file and making a single number change isn't a big deal to change back (preferably with a WinPE CD since recovery console sucks).
Re:I know that's what I have to do but being that this server is in production and that the .ini file will be replaced on both drives, if it doesn't work, then I am f@#$@#. I called MS-Tech. Support and they were helpful. Problem is solved.
Re:If you want to change it to 1, why havn't you atleast tried that to see what happens? It would probably have been quicker than posting here.
