Upgrading Win2K problem WIN98u003e [asus a7v133] [gig hd]

Q: I try my friend WIN98SE upgrade to Windows 2000 Professional. System are as follows:

T-Bird 1000, not overclocked
with 1004 BIOS
30 , connected to the Promise ATA100 controller

I download the drivers here (http://support.promise.com/Support/Driver_Support.asp? Product = ultra100) and press F6 to specify the setup (Win2000 UltraATA100 Promise controller) Im following 0.

bluescreen in completing the installation: 977 503 977 503 *** STOP: 0×0000007B (0XXxxXXxx, etc etc)
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

HELP get! ! Is this a problem with the controller? Would a u0026quot; u0026quot; Clean format / install better than upgrade? If it is that I tell him to do that!

TIA

Best Answer: you cannot upgrade in a seperate partition. it has to overwrite the 98 files. you can clean install in a seperate partition but not upgrade.

Re:What about a mobo that doesnt have any less than ATA100 controllers?? My new mobo only has ata100
Will putting the promise drivers on a disk work

Re:It turns out that the drivers from Asus' site was build 33. Using those solved the problem! Thanks Jerr

Re:Those should be the correct drivers: you just have to put them on a floppy. You do have to physically move the cable connection to the ATA/66 to try that method (that's how I installed W2K on my comp because I only had the ASUS drivers on CD).

Re:So he has to physically remove the connector and plug it into the other HD connector on the mobo?

Re:Are these (http://www.asus.com/products/motherboard/driver_ide.html#ata100) the ones you are talking about?

Re:Try installing with the drive connected to a ATA/66 channel. After OS install, install ULTRA/100 drivers and then switch the drive to ATA/100 channel. Also, you need to use the ASUS drivers. The promise drivers only work with the add-in cards.
