Q: Hi all,
Very recently (Today) My WD 80BB is only one years old began making an audible (louder than 5 case fans) humming sound – noise. I am very sure its going to die! Im going to RMA the sucker, but I need to replace a HDD in the mean time. I need your experience and advice that the best / fastest / most reliable hard drive to an OC.
Plz help.
Thanks in advance.
Re:Well my drive was running completly silent for over a year i believe it is due to the fact that it is failing. Ive probably had well over 500TB of data transferred on and off of it. Found out today i can RMA it and I will once i get my backup hdd.
Re:I just RMA'd a brand new MAxtor 80gig Liquid drive because it was making hideous noises right out of the box. Replaced it with the WD80, 8meg. which is totally silent.
It may all be just a matter of luck.
Re:I rechecked my hdd's serno on WD online warantee service and it came up as having a warantee. I made a typo substituting a S for a 5.
Well that make's me feel better but I still need a new drive to backup onto. Preferably a good OC'er because im going to make my old WD's in to a reduntant NAS device with an old Athlon 1.33 i have lying around.
Re:Thnx but how does it OC?
Re:thats a western dog for ya:)
newegg.com has the 7200 rpm ata133 80gig maxtor for $107 with free fedex
Re:I purchased the drive from Syntech computers in flushing NY USA. I hope it is not an export drive otherwise i will see if i can sue their asses off.
Yes i'm just evil enough to do it too. ![]()
Re:No warranty? Where did you buy it? Sounds like you got stuck with an export-only drive..
*I* prefer Maxtor…
Re:Oh no I may not be able to RMA it.
According to WD's online RMA system it says my hdd has no warantee this is bad.:disgust:
