Q: I turned off my computer a while ago (no specific reason why), and when I saw him again, but I really screwed up!
Everything loads fine (running W2K) but after loading Windows . message (an image), I get a BSOD telling me something about the systemroot/system32/config (im really guessing on the exact folder – but I think thats what it is) in the registry, saying it is not can load the component (file) “. Then quickly flashes a new message in that (too quick to read) and then restarts, repeat the process again.
please help!

Re:boot to the cd and restore the install.
Re:i created an emergency repair disk using my other computer (also running win2k, you can check out the specifics on my rig link), and tried to repair my installation using the disk. however, while trying to do that, every file it tried to copy failed (well, at least there were a lot that failed), and it also failed to copy the registry. now, when i reboot the computer, i am given the choice of starting Windows 2000 Professional, or Windows 2000 Professional, both exactly the same. If i try to start the first one, it starts loading and halfway through it freezes. if i try to start the second one, i am given the same error ive been getting and it resets. i just reformatted this computer about a week ago, so why would it be doing this, and what the hell do i do?
Re:Not sure if this (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q265509) is the cause of your problem, but it may provide a workaround.
Re:ill try that… this pisses me off, i just did a fresh install a week and a half ago, i shouldnt be getting these problems….
one question – will restoring the installation screw up any currently installed programs? (i.e. will it make a clean registry without all my installed stuff on it?)
