USB Cable Modem Problem Trying to switch to Ethernet [rj 45 cable] [modem problem]

Q: Basically, Im using a USB cable modem connected to the moment and it is that I have problems related to transferring files in the messengers and other problems as well as anyone able to use my computer to connect again . Since the USB-connected, I can not do much because it is not visible in “network connections” window. So I am trying to connect via RJ-45 cable that came with the modem. At first I just reconnected with that cable and put in the CD to install, but during the installation could not a connection between the modem and computer for one reason or another to detect. I tried to do different things like “repair” the connection and even tried giving its own IP because it can not be repaired due to the inability to connect to a DHCP server. Nothing has worked so far, and I wonder what the problem is because I just want the Ethernet connection to work, so I can actually edit for future use. Thank you.

Best Answer: Looks like a promblem with your ethernet port if your good with computer hardware you can open up the computer and look and test and fix the connections otherwise take it in to geek squad

I think you didn't listen to carefully to the recommendation for switching the modem off. i/expressions/rolleye.gif The USB and Ethernet ports have different MAC addresses, you need to turn off the cable modem, connect the Ethernet, and then turn it on. It should be as easy as falling off a log to get the Ethernet connected…Silly me I have to grow up, for some reason I assume that people do what is suggested, and if they keep posting it means that the suggestion did not help. :brokenheart:

Re:Wow, it works! I can't believe I never thought of something so simple! Thanks so much!;)

Re:Oh sorry about that.:P I'll try that out. Thanks.:)

Re:Yeah…I don't plan on doing anything extra than what I already have to fix this problem…so if it can't be fixed, so be it.

Re:Well, if the Ethernet does not work buy a DSL Modem that the Ethernet Works.

Model 5515 ETHERNET ADSL Bridge Modem. ($59). (http://www.dslmodemsdirect.com/)

Re:Er…you don't understand my problem…the USB works fine but I don't want to USE the USB, but rather the ethernet, which doesn't work (read closely). :)

Re:This is silly but power the cable modem off for 60 sec and turn it back on. It does MAC address authentication and may still think the USB cable is connected.
