Q: Here is fine, thats never happened, except for today where it happened twice (second time pwn3d me). I played City of Villains for a few hours, and the monitor just powers, but I can still hear the sound of the game and then suddenly your computer restarts. All fonts look crazy and messed up, so I turn my computer off and leave it for a while and turn it back on and its fine. Second time, same . I played CoV and monitoring powers and then computer restarts with crazy fonts and images. This time does not leave it alone, and when I try to go to Windows, just before windows boots I get a BSOD and what seem to be n4_disp as the cause. At this moment I can not even have to change Windows / update drivers and I believe that my nvidia geforce6600gt is to blame. Is there anything I can do, or do I need a new graphics card. Thanks in advance

Re:Sounds like that 6600GT may be borked. I have seen similar screen corruption upon booting from defective cards. Check to see if the fan on the card is spinning, and also take the card out and see if the cooler has become detached from the GPU core. That is a fairly common issue with 6600GTs using a 2 pin design for attaching the cooler. Although your's doesn't use the reference cooler, I'd still check both those things.
If you can try your card in another system, it producing the same results would confirm it. A local shop can do that for you, if you don't have access to another PCIe system.

Re:I don't understand. Booting in safe mode w/networking or VGA-only mode does what, exactly? Describe what you see, or post pictures, for both modes.

Re:Ok, well i can't really read anything on the screen, because all i get are crazy fonts (especially alot of what looks like a') and these green stripes down the screen so if i press f8 . it does bring me somewhere but i don't know what to scroll up or down to cause i can't read any of the menu options its just a bunch of weird font. Here are the specs of my computer,

I'm also running windows xp pro. Also, the BSOD flashes extremely quickly, the only error that i catch is n4_disp, is there a way to prolong tthe screen time of that so i can read off more details? thx in advance

If you want to try expediting things, hit F8 while booting to get to the select menu, and try last known good configuration, no go? Try safe-mode with networking. If you get in, go to nV and download the latest Forceware graphics drivers. Then download drivercleaner (http://www.drivercleaner.net/) use it to nuke the old drivers, and install the new ones.
If you have creative audio, update to their latest as well. And also make sure you ahve any/all patches for your game.
I don't suggest drivercleaner. Windows XP in safe mode doesn't use any drivercleaner like functionality, and it's able to boot merely by changing the pointer for the video used to vga.sys (assumedly from nv_disp.sys), so I suggest simply uninstalling the nVidia driver normally, then rebooting and confirming, again, that's the problem, once able to boot in safe mode.
I failed to elaborate sufficently on the process. From the instructions
Driver Cleaner Professional Editon is a program which helps you to remove parts of drivers that are left after uninstalling the old drivers. The program is for ATI, nVidia, Creative, Realtek, SIS, 3Dfx, S3 and more drivers. First you need to uninstall the drivers from the control panel, then reboot. After rebooting, run the program. If you really want a good description of what steps you should take, then you really need to read the readme file included in the zip file and installation as it contains a detailed step by step description. The program also fully supports windows themes and other kind of themes. The bolded part is why I suggest it. Many gamers in the video forum can confirm that gaming problems can persist after simply using the XP's uninstall capabilities. Using driver cleaner after that process, IME can be beneficial.

Re:You might want to describe your hardware in as much detail as
possible for a better chance for asisstance.
What brand/model Video card, CPU, motherboard, Power Supply, etc…
The n4_disp error (sometimes called "infinite loop error") can be caused
by a good number of things.
Underpowered PSU, overheating CPU or Video GPU/Ram, etc.
Also, post any errors that you find in the EVENT LOG.
