W.A.S.T.E client / server for small networks [beta stage] [frang]

Q: website here (http://waste.sourceforge.net/)

im considering setting this up on my fathers office . theres no greater than 20 computers and 1 server and I think it would be ideal, as opposed to the use of Winpopup (lol) and MSN at work, etc. . im concerned that its still in beta but a stable and why does not it?

anyone tried, no auggestions?

thx!

Best Answer: Web based Yahoo e-mail is not an e-mail client. It is simply another web page appearing in a browser. I don't see how you can make a URL a lauchable application for e-mail, since IE has to know about where to place the subject and the body. But I'm I'll be watching this question. Interesting..:-))

hmm this sounds like it could start getting confusing… see the staff at my dads office are not exactly computer genii (hence my job!)… so assuming I get every computer connected and working at one point hopefully all will be good… im worried because this software is BETA and because I can't always be around to help troubleshoot errors at the office…

I would find somethign else then, this is definitely for advanced users and for sharing files, not a good chat app. There has to be some sort of provate chat app out there.

thanks for the feedback! :)

the reason i started looking into this program to start with is because there was always problems with computers seeing eachother and sharing files on the network because half of the computers are win98 and the other half are xp and theres a win2k box too if im not mistaken… over the next few weeks i will gradually be upgrading everything and setting up xp on all machines and that should hopefully resolve these problems.

I used it but it can be tricky to get to work, if I reinstalled Windows I had a heck of a time using the same profile and key, so I would have to create a new one, so it is a very sensitive app, but it works good when you get connected. Also everyone needs to be connected to everyone, in other words give everyone each other keys otherwise you are limited to who you can see. If I am pcA and my friend is pcB and he is connect to pcC I can see pcC when i see my friend but not when pcB goes offline, unless I get a key from pcC directly.

It was made for file sharing not instant messenger.

Re:I have not used it, but something like that would be good for a small network… I would not allow MSN on my business computers… too much time personal talking and stuff instead of working… at least that way you know it's only people in the office.
