Q: Hey guys. I do not think it is not covered fully exploit, so Im reposting a clear answer. Firstly, I bought my own copy, so no crying in piracy, right? Im not much for playing on Battle.net, especially as I stomped my ass every time I was barely a foot on the battelfield. I suck, okay? But my real passion lies in playing with a friend (who bought his own copy) at the computer, Co-op style. He lives in the street, and there is no way to adorning a LAN more than 500 meters (which would still try?). Battle.net seems to be a bit laggier than we like, and want smooth game play like we just down the comp. Now I know two things previously discussed at a LAN simlute so we can play with the LAN option, kali.net and VPN. Kali was said to be free, and it is, but only for the first 15 minutes, and Im not forking over $ 20 for this program. And VPN is a complete mystery to me, and could even stand alone between two computers on the Internet? What can we do to get this work ?
Best Answer: If you have a firewall on either machine, it may be blocking the ports used for the game. Test it with the firewalls turned off (but do NOT connect to the internet until you turn it back on)
Re:I found a solution that works great!! I found this at GameCopyWorld (http://www.gamecopyworld.com). It is, of course, under the Warcraft 3 section. This site is totally legit, so hopefully I don't get booted out of these forums for providing a link. This site is ONLY for those who OWN the game!!! But there is a great program called LANcraft, which works perfect. So for those who want to play a LAN game over the internet, this is the simplest way to do it!! Enjoy.
Re:You guys aren't understanding my question. I'm not trying to get around the CD-key check. I'm looking for a way to play on a simulated LAN. I may have to check out this Kali thing if they are giving away free accounts. If anyone knows of a way to play without going through battle.net, let me know. Thanks.
Re:Wow that's a nice link you gave there. So do you know how I can view the MPQ files for war3? I tried using various MPQs but in the 10 mins I tried couldn't get any of them to extract the movie mpqs.
Re:Although I would be careful if you play on one of those emulated bnet servers. Since they are emulated to bnet, they have the ability to check your CD-Key like a real bnet server. There were reports during the war3 beta that real war3 beta users logging in to an emulated bnet that got their CD-Keys stolen. If you play on one of those, I suggest you install the game using a CD-Key thats found on many of the pirated War3 distros, not your own.
Re:There are Battle.net Emulators you can play on, i play on the Pure-Evil server (http://evilsperm.cjb.net:6969) and it isnt too bad but it is down sometimes :\, Kali is also another viable option that i use when Pure-Evil is down.
Re:Haven't tried this personally, but linky (http://www.warforge.ch.vu/)
Re:Battle.net is only as laggy as the connection you're on (different from diablo2)
There is no alternative way, unless you set up your own bnet server with bnetd, but i doubt thats going to happen because I think bnetd isnt available publically. War3 has no IP internet play support, so pretty much Kali is the only thing left. I hear they are giving away free accounts.
If you do decide to play on battle.net, use a private custom game play with computers. I would also make note that the AI in war3 is great at micro'ing (although its can be stupidity at macro'ing supercedes itself sometimes). If you cant beat lvl1 guys on battle.net, then the last thing I suggest you try is playing against the AI (unless its a cheese).
Re:been wondering this myself as well… couldn't get VPN to work through XP, have a long thread about it networking
