Q: nVidia program I opened a program I had to gamble to be overclocking my 7800GT card.
And I clicked on the “Quick Setup” think its a magician, and wondered how it would be like.
Instead. it looked like something loaded on 75% then stopped, and the use of my keyboard and mouse nothing.
Then my screen went black.
So I hit my reset button and power and few times, but they did nothing, so I resorted to off my PSU.
Was it safe?
It seems to work fine now .
Best Answer: Well, sounds like your diagnosis of the system board maybe correct. How that (sometimes) happens is you put your piece of memory in (probably the wrong spot) and its not pushed down all the way. Then of course you turn the system on and nothing reads. You pull the memory back out with maybe YOU being static-y and it sends a low shot of electricity through the mem stick and M board and fries it. BUT consider buying a cheap PS Tester just in case (about $10). Could be both PS are dead and your planer is OK.
I have seen that same scenario a few times with my students. Brand new units they finish building and don't take care with a ground and pulling parts, turning machine on, pulling parts again in rapid succession. Too with a new system board you maybe able to hook the front panel up correctly so you can turn it off and on? Next time too a "DO NOT TOUCH" sign for your son!

Re:Hi, The only damage in shutting off at the PS input switch would be to Windoze's pride. It may grumble a bit on reboot, but will usually right itself. If any drive was being written to you may end up with a corrupted file, but the damage was done before you shut it down. Luck, Jim

I did, it still did nothing.
So I gave up and just switched it off.
Well if holding the power button down didn't work, then yeah I guess that's the next option.
I wouldn't worry about it.

Re:Normally I'd hold down the power button for 5 seconds rather than switching the PSU off.
Next time (if there is a next time) try holding the power button until it shuts off
