Q: This system gives me weird problems. It is used to work great, but since I installed and then uninstalled Nero (based on not recognizing the burner), I can no longer be using a web browser (IE, Firefox, etc.). Even when I try to close it by choosing “Shutdown”, just the computer again. It also restarts when I select restart.
I was able to visit Web sites for a short period of time when I removed the NIC driver and then restart the computer (again himself). But when I rebooted again, it was back to the browsers are unable to access the network. The strange thing is the IP of the computer is legit, and Im able to take anti-spyware programs like Ad-Aware and Spybot Update. So, the computer is able to access the network. Not only through the browsers.
I computer scanned with both Ad-aware (15 critical objects found that I removed) and Spybot (about 16 that I removed), and it is not to determine whether problem.
I also tried restoring Win2k SP4 OS with the disk. Still undetectable it.
What s the deal?
Re:It was having issues with both Nero 5 and Roxio CD Creator 6. So, I formatted the drive (it still was restarting when "Shutdown" was selected even after Creator 6 was uninstalled), put CDBurnerXP Pro on there, and it's good to go! Figures, a free program is the one that works.
Re:I actually just reinstalled the OS since no data was on it. Everything was perfect until I installed Roxio EZ Creator 6. That's when it started to restart when "Shutdown" is selected, as well as when "Restart" is selected. Apparently, this system does not like burning software.
Any ideas how to fix this?
By the way, the last time this happened with this system before I reinstalled the OS just now, I deselected "automatically reboot when system fails" so I could get the bluescreen error. When the blue screen came up, it said that it was starting to dump the physical memory.
One other thing that was weird was that as I was reinstalled Win2k, the monitor started to flicker gray snow (the kind you get when flip through channels on your TV that have no signal without the cable box hooked up to your TV. It wasn't exactly like it, though. The snow was a lot grayer than it is with TV's.
Re:Disconnect from the internet, uninstall sygate, uninstall avast.
Reboot -
If all is well, reinstall sygate.
reboot.
if good,
reinstall avast
Re:For some reason, installing and uninstalling Nero screwed up the installation of both AVAST! and sygate. Sygate was causing the not being able to browse problem. But I still have the rebooting issue. I did a search, and it is caused by the fact that the system reboots when there is a system failure. So, I unchecked the option where the system automatically reboots. After that change was made, when I tried to Shutdown, the screen, after shutting down most of the way, turned into a bunch of colorful verticle lines. Video issue?
What's going on with this system?
