Q: Just curious what you think are some of the top shelf games. I am a PC gamer who purchased an Xbox to try something new. Im generally satisfied with the way the xbox Grafix look, but it pales in comparison to my AMD/G4 rig. I must admit that the lighting effects (at least in Splinter Cell) are great .
Anyways . Im playing Splinter Cell now and love it . lets hear what you play and why you think it rocks.

It is very overrated but I don't get into single player FPS'ers at all and have to say the single player is best I have played on anything. I player FPS'ers for multiplayer only but I did finish Halo single player. I havent seen a FPS yet that had a killer story line to it. Heck even Halo beats out Unreal II story line wise but Unreal II graphics owns it.
If it wasnt for the vehicles in Halo(mainly the truck) it wouldnt be nearly as good.

Well, on my own advice, I went out and bought Wreckless and Amped today, $20 each. After playing them today, I'd say that Amped is easily worth the money. Different enough from Tony Hawk to be new, but similar enough to bring the "extreme sports" fun to the table. Playing with my own tunes in the game rules. Wreckless is pretty fun, but I got about 4 missions in and started to get frustrated. Nifty graphics, though 
For the price, you can't go wrong.
If you don't have the smaller Type S controller, I recommend it (as do most people, I'm sure). I finally got around to buying one today, and it makes so much difference… almost like a whole new system now. Inspired by my new friend the Xbox, I went to ebay and got the Jet Set Radio Future and Sega GT pack for $20 shipped. I've played the demo for JSRF and thought it was cool, would have paid $20 for it alone. Sega GT is just a bonus as far as I'm concerned. Then I found Dead To Rights on ebay for $23.50 shipped, so got that too. It got mixed reviews, but seemed like a fun mindless action diversion, which I haven't had lately.
I'm planning on getting Simpsons Road Rage now that it's a Platinum Hit. Be warned, it's supposed to be one of the worst games around, but it's also one of the few that my girlfriend has shown any interest in, so that makes it a must-buy here 
I read somewhere else that casual gamers are drawn to it.
I know this is an Xbox thread, but I can't help mentioning: I preordered the new Zelda game for the Gamecube today as well. The coolest part was they gave me a disc with some demo movies and two N64 Zelda games on it, all high-res'd up for the Cube. w00t

Agreed. However, I think it's fair to say that it is the best console FPS ever, for what that's worth. Co-op mission play is a blast… dark room, Dolby Digital sounds surrounding you, big enough TV…

Are you f@cking retarded? Halo is the best game the X box has to offer. If you really want to enjoy it get 8 of your friends together and do a system link. I swear you'll be up all night playing. If you have more friends than hook 4 X boxes together and play 8 on 8. It's a blast!!

… visit it quite often and I'm going to check to local used places over the weekend. I don't have Xbox Live so it sounds like Halo is geared more towards that.

The new Platinum Hits line (http://www.xbox.com/platinumhits) of games at $20 a pop has some good deals, like RalliSport Challenge, Project Gotham Racing and SSX Tricky. Another good investment is a subscription to Official Xbox Magazine (http://www.officialxboxmagazine.com/) which gets you a cover disk full of demos every month for $30/yr. ($8/issue on stands)
For eye-searing graphics action, both Dead or Alive 3 and Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball will make you wonder how we got along with Pong back in the day. The latter has love-it-or-hate-it gameplay, but it's visually the tops. Buffy the Vampire Slayer didn't sell well, but it's a lot of fun and looks good. I'm also liking Hunter: The Reckoning and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4.

Wreckless is OK and looks great, but some of the missions are just naff and the Team Xbox and Planet Xbox forums (another good source of info) usually pick this as the Worst. Game. Ever. It's not THAT bad.

But overall, I've been very dissapointed with my Xbox. Got it when it first came out, and I still only have a few games for it. Most of the ones I try seem to just be shovelware. But what do I know? There are people that seem to like it. The Dolby Digital in every game is definitely awesome.
