Q: I recently got a failure in my RAID array due to a broken line. I had two Maxtor 40.9GB 7200rpm hard drives in RAID 0 mode, where one day when I went on my computer I have an error saying that I had received a broken line. I have a HighPoint 370 RAID controller card on my KT7A-RAID board. My two hard drives of the same model, one of them Ive had since August 2000 and the second I had since January 2001. Would the broken stripe RAID 0 array killed my hard drive is a sign of death, or would it be something caused by HPT beta drivers I tried. I am now using both hard drives, but not in RAID mode, standard IDE instead a system performed surface scan on all my partitions and nothing bad has turned. Im baffled by this error has any insight appreciated. Thanks

It means you have a stripe that is broken.

But rather like guy said, it's just a corrupted sector on the hard drive. You have to remember that RAID0 arrays are highly prone to data loss. It's very easy to disturb them and have them crap out on you.
Re:Sounds like nothing more than a corrupted stripe. What may be a fixable error with a single drive can be death to RAID array. That's the risk you take running RAID 0.
