What have I missed in loading Windows XP [phoenix award] [loading windows]

Q: I built my new system, two nights ago and it went well. Windows loaded smoothly, too. The thing is that when the startup hangs on the first screen – one wuith the one – and I told the bottom to go through one of two courses: Press F1 and when Windows has loaded or do I 2) press Delete and move on to the BIOS.

How so I can correct this problem if I start there is no hanging? Thank you.

Edit: Thanks to mechanical and 13gigatons began. It was the simple need to disable Halt in the CMOS. Everything is smooth now.

Best Answer: Stick with Vista and wait for Service Pack 1 to come out for it. It's supposed to improve the speed of copying, deleting and moving big files. Service Pack 1 is officially coming out March 18th.

2) check that the onboard CMOS battery isn't dead

3) go into the BIOS and set the board not to halt on any errors

How does one check to see if the CMOS battery is dead or not? What steps do I take?

Use a multimeter?

Re:Are you sure it's locked up and not just taking a really long time? After installing my Plextor SATA DVD-+RW drive, my system takes forever to detect my drives at bootup.

Re:Components:

EPoX 9NPA+ Ultra – no error issues whatsoever; booted up the first time

AMD Atholon 64 3200+ Venice

2 Gigs of Crucial Ballistix RAM in a 4×512 configuration (long story). Motherboard set them perfectly.

Power Supply: Antec TP 2.0 550W

Video Card: connect3D X800GTO

Sound Card: M-Audio Revolution 5.1

DVD (2): Lite-On Dual Layer

Keyboard: Microsoft Digital Media Pro (wired)

Optical Mouse: Logitech MX 310 (wired)

Like I said, everything works; it booted up the first time. When I loaded Windows it went smoothly and recognized my Seagate 7200.8 HD once I made it the priority in boot-up.

The screen does not indicate errors.

Re:What does the error exactly say? You can try going into the BIOS and selecting Load Optimized Defaults to see if it goes away and then you can start to narrow down which setting was causing that.

Re:That has nothing to do with Windows XP, to start with. Is there any error message accompanying that, such as "NO KEYBOARD DETECTED" or whatnot? Can you list your system's specs, including brands/models of the parts?
